I discovered you can't run X with the 16-15 Lite image Rasbian. The lite image doesn't come with a window manager by default.
So if you add one you will probably see this message in the .xsession-errors file in the users folder.
/etc/X11/Xsession: 113: /etc/profile.d/helloworld.sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected (expecting "fi")
You can safely move the helloworld.sh to another location and your GUI logon will be fixed.
Does the helloworld.sh file get used after installation? I justed added it to the bottom of my .bashrc for both root and me.
