Having trouble dialing out from zap lines - cli shows everything goes through ok but line just hangs - call does not go out.

Happens on two different servers, trix 1.2.3, trix 2.2.9, Elastix 0.9.0 and PBXiaF.

Here is my set up -

Server 1, P3 800 768 ram, been running trix 1.2.3 for a long time no problems, 1 week ago calls stopped going out through 3 zap line on TDM card, checked over everything in my set up, nothing changed, cli shows calls ok, but just hang.

So I set up server 2, Dual P3 1000, 1 meg ram, set up all versions above and moved card over and same problems.

Decided after lots of testing card must be bad - ordered another TDM400 and put in both servers - same problem, no calls out both servers, both cards.

All incoming calls come through just fine, go to IVR and route to proper ext, no problem.

Calls will not reliably go out zap lines at all. (sometimes 5-6 tries and call actually dial out)

I have some telasip line and I have set that for outgoing for all calls but need to get the zap lines working again also.

Any ideas???

Obvious question, but has anything changed around the time the calls stopped going out ? This could either be in your system or at the telco ? Maybe it's a line issue and you need an engineer callout ?

No, nothing changed - I can plug all zap lines in to a regular phone and call go out fine, every time.

Here is two cli logs....both show call successfully completed but one did not ring at other end.............
(red arrows added by me)
Both calls appear to complete through pbx.
Server is running new install PBX in a Flash.
*****************************************
This call just get silence until telco voice says.. we are sorry call did not go through....

Hi

Can you confirm a couple of things.

1. is this the number you intended to dial - 6242221? If this is correct, then we can ignore routing or number manipulation problems

2. How many red modules have you got in the card, and in which ports are they.

2. Which port is the telephone line plugged into - nearest motherboard or furthest away.

3. Can you post the result of cat /proc/zaptel/*

One thing you could try is to set the individual trunk to dial out of, rather than simply dialling the group g0

create a zap trunk called "1" assuming you have an FXO module in postion 1, and select that trunk in outbound routes.

This may help you nail the problem.

1. Yes this is the correct number I am dialing (all numbers act the same way)

2. 4 red modules in both TDM04's - all red ports.

2. (ha two twos!!) Have lines plugged into top two ports, farthest from MB.

3. Span 1: WCTDM/0 "Wildcard TDM400P REV I Board 1"

1 WCTDM/0/0 FXSKS (In use)
2 WCTDM/0/1 FXSKS (In use)
3 WCTDM/0/2 FXSKS (In use)
4 WCTDM/0/3 FXSKS (In use)

I have tried setting up the zap trunks 1,2,3,4 and get the same results.
This is now a brand new install on yet another box, P4 3000.

Like I said in the OP, I at first thought it was just a bad card, but the new card acts the same way in all setups.
If I hit redial a bunch of times the call actually does ring - but it takes sometimes 5-6 tries.
I am having trouble thinking I have two bad cards.
My hair is getting grayer!!

Thanks.

Hi

Can you T the telephone connection so that you can listen to the DTMF through a normal handset, while dialling from the PBX ?

I'm suspecting quiet or malformed DTMF - caused by incorrect set-up of the zapata / zaptel, or dodgy cables.

try also running fxotune if you have not already to set the balances.

Ok, ran a new line from telco posts to server. Same results no calls out.

Put a T in line and listened for tones - came through loud and clear.
All calls go out and ring just fine. Tried about 20 calls all were completed.

Took out T and same results as before, no calls out.

Hooked up T to listen again, all calls again go out and ring.

Take out T, no call ring.

One strange thing, when listening to tones, the first six come through fast, the last tone lags behind about a half second, but when listening all calls go out.

edit - Forgot to say I did run fxotune -i 4.

Hi

Well those results are wierd, a new one for me, possible resolutions may be: -

1.Maybe it's over modulation (or under modulation) - the modulation is changed by having a phone plugged in. - Try changing the tx gain - alter the gain in zapata.conf then issue "reload chan_zap.so" at the asterisk CLI and see if that makes a difference.

2. Call Digium support - it's their card, and they will support you for free, and will probably know more about it than us.

Yours

I upped the tx gain to 4.0 no change.

If I ordered a sangoma card do you think I would have the same problems??

euser4life at trixbox forums posted "Trying adding a "w" for your zap trunks in the "Outbound Dial Prefix" field" and that has fixed the problem. All calls are going out from the zap lines again.

Thanks to all.
