how can I take a complete image of the system for backup?
As this thread is 'Incredible' i'm assuming its ipbx image you are using.
The way to make an image is or was described in the Raspberrypi.org tutorial about
Installing OS images
You can use
to shutdown and remove the SD card (or USB HDD if you went that route).
Then on annother computer of whatever type you can follow the methods detailed for Windowz; Mac OS; or Linux.
For example the Linux tutorial explains about a procedure for
Checking whether the image was correctly written to the SD card
That pretty much tells you how Using dd you can copy your SD card to an rpi-backup.img file using
Code:
cd #[path to directory where you want to save the image file]
dd bs=4M if=/dev/sdX of=from-sd-card.img
Where sdX is the name of your SD card; but you must follow all precautions and ensure you know which is the correct drive or you could delete your SD card.
Obviously its simpler to do an incrediblebackup from the Pi commandline which makes a zipped archive in /backup However the image method is quicker to get your system back up after a disaster.
and to restore
As an afterthought I wonder if
@wardmundy might have a script for this?
