We've put up a special page to track low-cost providers and to provide periodic updates. Might be worth a bookmark if you play in this sandbox.

We bit the bullet and upgraded our CloudAtCost resources to v3. I'M NOT RECOMMENDING ANYONE ELSE DO SO, but I did want to share the SpeedTest results from a couple v3 honeypots that we built for our new PUBLIC-facing version of Incredible PBX.

You can test the VoIP sound quality here... sip:[email protected]
They're now in about the same league as the $1/month providers. At current pricing, it would take you 99 months to break even.

We'll see how long the honeymoon lasts. :sailor:

Since you upgraded to v3, they should not charge you the maintenance fee anymore so that changes your break even point

You're right. At $9 a year, I think I'll be even in less than 200 years.

*snort*

I'm actually paying the $9/year. That's funding my 7 Developer instances (so, 70 GB disk, 7 CPUs, 3584 RAM), plus a couple of CPanel instances, a couple of storage instances, and a template pack (all of which I picked up for a few bucks each over the years). I'm no defender at all, but things have (fingers crossed; knock on wood) been chugging along reasonably smoothly lately. Nothing there is mission critical. I might have to reboot the PBX every month or two.

Maybe things are running more smoothly for us plebes because Ward moved his NSA-equivalent virtual machines over to v3...

With the prices of SSD dropping like rocks now, I would expect to see better pricing on them. I just saw an Intel M.2 1TB drive for $87

In addition to Naranjatech (above), we've added a couple more low-cost KVM platforms to support 3CX, OpenSIPS and IncrediblePBX-PUBLIC deployments. Complete listing is here. All of the new KVM offers are $25 or less per year. More to come...

We're actually using the new CrownCloud Snapshot feature with our latest OpenSIPS server. It is very slick and is included in their $25/year offering:

Ward,

I'm now using flipperhost for my email system. It's so much faster than any other VPS I've used. I set up a second machine for my son/his friends to play Unturned and they are getting 100 fps.

Flipperhost has:

4 CPU Cores
1024MB RAM
1024MB vSwap
50GB RAID10 Diskspace
4TB Bandwidth
100Mbps uplink
1x IPv4 address
OpenVZ/SolusVM
$3.75/Month or $25/year upfront

I'm not sure if the 100Mbps port is fast enough for a big PBX, but I'm thrilled with their performance and support so far. Perhaps you can find reason to give them a try.

Just an update (but not an endorsement) on the new CloudAtCost v3 platform. We've now had an Incredible PBX 13-13-PUBLIC server running for over 100 days with very few SIP attacks and no breakins. SpeedTest out of New York continues to be fairly impressive, especially by CloudAtCost standards:

Just a heads up that most of the low-cost cloud offerings have now disappeared. Some have quadrupled in price. Others have just gone away. Latest pricing is shown below. The new prices make Digital Ocean, Vultr, and OVH competitive and a much safer long-term bet.

I'd rather see them at a reasonable price increase than just have them shut down. At least I was able to get a dual-core, 4-Gb memory, 50 Gb SSD instance on Hosting73 for $25/year. I also have the $14 instance but it is not working correctly with Centos 7.

There is merit in paying more for something that is reliable, functions correctly and won't shut down overnight (like Vult) but I also believe that Hosting73 will keep putting out promotions that will make them more affordable than the sticker price they now display.

So they found out they couldn't give shit away for free making money huh? This rather reminds me when I had a client one time that tried to beat me up on price saying "So and so offers it for that". My reply ... Listen, if I do it for that, then I won't make a fair profit, and you want me to. If I don't make enough money, I"ll go out of business and then what do you have? You have a good deal that is no longer supported, and I can't afford to do anything about it. You WANT ME to make a profit. You want me to be healthy to provide top quality service and support. A good businessman when hearing that explanation will completely understand and agree.
