Hi, I am a relative UNIX neophyte. I have had PIAF running for ages with no problem. Recently I experience two system shutdowns - "Kernel Panic - not syncing". I have been googling everything I see on the shutdown screen trying to figure out how to go about diagnosing this. I am assuming there is a log somewhere that will provide some pointers but I haven't been able to figure this out. So, any pointers in going about diagnosing this would be great. Thanks.

First place to look would be /var/log/messages. You might also look at /var/log/boot.log to see what it says about the filesystem at boot-up. The output of status would be nice, too.

The machine continued to crash in startup this morning - stopping at the following lines:

Netjet PCI Driver Rev 2.0
Netjet...
NJ_probe(mISDN): found adaptor at 000:01:08.0

When I hard booted the system it went through this and loaded normally - although I am anticipating a crash again. I think this is the network card? Perhaps that is my issue?

I got the messages log below - I went back two days, over some of the crashes, but I can't see anything that immediately jumps out as an error or anything? I also included the boot.log. I cannot find a status file? Thanks for the help.

Thanks. I do have an FXO/FXS card in the machine. I am not using it as I disconnected my POTS a while back. I was keeping it in the computer to eventually setup a fax line in house but I never got around to it and that seems to be a waste of time these days. I will just remove the card and see if things improve. Is it possible that something has gone bad on the card that is causing this issue?

Bump. I am still having crashes every week or so. I have not been able to pin down the root cause of this - but I am a bit of a neophyte in both linux and PIAF so any pointers for helping to resolve this would be great. It might be that I am loading a driver that I don't need to support the analog lines in the system that I am not using?

I would run a memory test and a hard drive test on the computer. Both can cause strange crashes.

I did - but when I did this I got dahdi errors - it looks like something is still installed related to this card. I then put the card back in the machine although these errors did not seem to interfere with the operation of the PBX. Based on your suggestion I have removed the card again. Is there an easy way to remove the dahdhi configuration? Also, are there standard hard drive and memory tests I can run? Thanks.
