I started to get a large number of Fail2Ban messages against my SSH port- so Fail2Ban is doing its thing- but I was confused... I thought I had knockd enabled- so I was surprised anything was even seeing the SSH port- as I doubted they were knocking correctly.
I figured I never installed Travelin' Man 3 and went to install it- followed the easy instructions over on NerdVittles and ... now I have a problem
service iptables restart
-------------------------------
iptables: Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter raw mangl[ OK ]
iptables: Flushing firewall rules: [ OK ]
iptables: Unloading modules: [ OK ]
iptables: Applying firewall rules: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
iptables-restore v1.4.7: iptables-restore: unable to initialize table 'nat'
Error occurred at line: 2
iptables-restart
----------------------
iptables: Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: filter raw mangl[ OK ]
iptables: Flushing firewall rules: [ OK ]
iptables: Unloading modules: [ OK ]
iptables: Applying firewall rules: [FAILED]
iptables -nL now shows a whole lot of nothing.
I've rolled back the config by restoring iptables.b4travelinman to iptables... still getting this error.
Searching online there are suggestions like 'modprobe ip_tables' - which report the module isn't found.
If it helps, I am hosted at HiFormance.
I'm barely functional inside Linux- please ELI5? What do I need to do?
(EDIT: I am not using the NerdVittles image on HiFormance)
