If we have to reboot a wazoo cloud server (Linode), our iptables always seem to be corrupted and will not restart with iptables-restart.

The error message is:
IPtables FQDN problem on line: line56failed
The unresolvable FQDN is failed.
This rule will be disabled to allow IPtables to start.
Check and correct line line56failed in /etc/iptables/rules.v4.
******** 10-SECOND WARNING ALERT ***********

sed: -e expression #1, char 2: extra characters after command

out of my depth. Help please?

Edit /etc/iptables/rules.v4: nano -w /etc/iptables/rules.v4

Find line 56: Ctrl-W then Ctrl-T then 56 then ENTER

Comment out the line by adding # at beginning of the line

Save the file: Ctrl-X then Y then Enter

Restart IPtables: iptables-restart

each line after that seems to have the same error, as we are getting:

IPtables FQDN problem on line: line56failed
The unresolvable FQDN is failed.
This rule will be disabled to allow IPtables to start.
Check and correct line line56failed in /etc/iptables/rules.v4.

FYI: After reviewing the script, it was obvious data corruption. Similar corruption reportedly existed in other files in this directory. Since these are standard text files, some of which are not even used in production, it would appear to be a hardware problem with the disk.
