i just installed one VM on Oregon server Google Cloud. Terrible performance. Just calling in the IVR has a terrible stutter. I should have check first the board before even bothering with this experiment. I thought I can get by using it for my home phone.

Let the dust settle for a few hours. Then try your call again. If you're on the $300 freebie, upgrade your instance to N1-standard-1 machine type after shutdown. Then restart.

This error message displays, client shows I am connected and I can call out from truck or any of the system extensions just fine.
I just cant receive calls, as it thinks I am not available

From another thread and also a comment to the Google Cloud article:

For the early adopters, be advised that there is a bug in the Google Cloud implementation that incorrectly sets the permissions on /var/lib/asterisk which means that Asterisk cannot write to its internal database. We’ve amended the tutorial to take this into account, but here’s the fix if you already have built a server:
Code:
chown -R asterisk:asterisk /var/lib/asterisk

amportal restart

Re-save each extension you created after applying the fix above.

Looks like that solved the registration issue.

I wonder if thats the issue with the other test vms.

If I am right you might want to incorp it into the script itself, as I have been plagued with this issue for quite some time.

Got it solved on my production server after a failed upgrade attempt, but could never figure out why all of my test servers wouldnt work.

Also Thank You @wardmundy

I haven't looked at my back-up pbx I created on google cloud for a while and now the gui shows this:
The following commands failed with the listed error
/var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin listonline > /dev/null 2>&1 (1)

Any ideas? (yes, I am a novice :)

Try running the command in console

/var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin listonline

Quick guess , remove the paranthetic argument on the first line of

/etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf

and try over.

a quick bashism :-

sed -i "s/(.*)//" /etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf

@PBX Novice And that error message may indicate that the modules you have installed are to old.

I am pretty sure I saw a script to upgrade them all somewhere on wards site.

OOps! my formatting error!! and hopefully corrected, the intention is to replace (!) on the [directories] line that will blow it up "fwconsole ma listonline" in versions of FreePBX > 13
