At the time of @wardmundy's blog post http://nerdvittles.com/?p=30642 he mentions that incoming faxing is broken and references the bug https://issues.freepbx.org/browse/FREEPBX-19875
That link says that the issue has been fixed. I had already installed the latest update https://pbxinaflash.com/community/threads/freepbx-vulnerability.24090/#post-144952 so I thought I would try configuring faxing. Sure enough, I was able to receive a fax and get it as email. I think we're good on this one now
