Hi all,

1. Every time I send a fax from the Avantfax web UI; on the receiving end it shows from +100000000001, +100000000002, +100000000003.. and so forth. Where is the outbound CID set?

2. Routing inbound faxes to email; when you have multiple users/email addresses, how is it determined to which email address the fax will be sent?

Thanks for putting together a nice fax package.

Thanks! I didn't know there was a webmin for Hylafax.

I'm still don't understand why the outbound caller becomes +100000000001, +100000000002, +100000000003....

That is one place to configure the Outbound callerID. The "local identifier" field is the one to configure. If you want to configure from the command line the file(s) are:

/etc/hylafax/etc/config.ttyIAX0, /etc/hylafax/etc/config.ttyIAX1, etc. on the line "LocalIdentifier"

In the US, 47 CFR Section 68.318(d), dealing with "Fax Branding", requires that the originator of a fax message identify the sender name and telephone number as well as the time and date sent on all messages transmitted by including this information on outgoing faxes on the top or bottom margin of each page of each fax sent.

47 CFR Section 68.318(d):
Telephone facsimile machines; Identification of the sender of the message. It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States to use a computer or other electronic device to send any message via a telephone facsimile machine unless such person clearly marks, in a margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page of the message or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine or of such business, other entity, or individual. If a facsimile broadcaster demonstrates a high degree of involvement in the sender’s facsimile messages, such as supplying the numbers to which a message is sent, that broadcaster’s name, under which it is registered to conduct business with the State Corporation Commission (or comparable regulatory authority), must be identified on the facsimile, along with the sender’s name. Telephone facsimile machines manufactured on and after December 20, 1992, must clearly mark such identifying information on each transmitted page.

Depending on your VoIP provider, you also might need to set the outgoing CID in the outbound route that Avantfax uses to make sure it is your fax number.

The only way I was able to change the outbound caller name and ID was by altering the iaxmodem-cfg.ttyIAX files found in /etc/iaxmodem/

Prior to that change it would say: From Incredible Fax2..

Are you referring to the header that is sent on each fax page? If so, then yes, you have to change that in the Hylafax settings files.

You also might need to set the outgoing (trunk) CID depending on your VoIP carrier but this only affects the CID that is shown on the receiving end's system (for example, if the recipient uses an e-Fax service it would show as the sender's fax number).
