Dear Customer,
Over the past few months we have been met with many challenges within the hosting business. Some that have not been overcome.
As result of this we will be closing our doors. We will be shutting down this Monday 12/9/2019. We are taking this time to let our customers know so that they may backup and retrieve all of their data before then.
We deeply apologize for this inconvenience.
Thank You.

@wardmundy I guess you can take this one off the list of vendors now. At least they gave a couple of day's notice.

Actually - take at least 2 off the list. I got the exact same wording from SnowVPS. Obviously there's some kind of relationship there. Now I have to get busy and pull my backup down and decide whether its worth trying to run from the house. It was really convenient running on a hosting service.

I'm giving Free Range cloud to see how that will work out. I run my production stuff on Vultr cloud. Not too bad for $5/month.

I signed up with Hosted Simply (I know, they're no longer on the list) several months ago. Except for for the first few months (starting in April/May - I tried to be patient with them,) but experienced over-the-top problems and I was about to abandon them. For the past 2-3 months however, their up-time and reliability has been pretty good! BUT, I received an email message from them a few hours ago with exactly the same content as @kenn10 had referenced above. All this suggests that all of the el-cheapo providers may be "the same". But then, with a business plan that practically 'gives away' services, should we be surprised that they fail?

And there's more. Check the chatter on Low-End-Talk: https://bit.ly/38iH9c2 .
There's more chatter here: https://bit.ly/33VjWct

Fortunately (for me) the services I had with Hosted Simply were mostly sand-box, so even if they shut down completely ... not an overwhelming loss. Next task: find another reasonably priced provider.

I got email from https://www.lqhosting.com that they close their service.

We've had good results with $25/yr CrownCloud and you get a free snapshot. Also available in Europe...

LowEndTalk maintains a WhiteList that is worth reviewing as well.

I got the Hosted Simply email at about 7pm (saw it this morning -- my PC has fan issues so I had it off last night), sad part is I paid for the year -- this is why I want pay by month -- I aslo have a shared VPS on HudonvallyHosts and a Dedicated box with them and now they got stupid and try to take $$ when they are not supposed to -- their response is 'Well it's our parent company doing it this way)

So now I am looking to migrate 13 production websites to individual servers (wanted all one provider for convenience and bill at once, but Oh well) - so now am either looking for a reliable year plans (but once bitten twice shy) or affordable monthly plans spread over many datacenters (Confucious say: He who put all his eggs in one basket, have scrambled eggs for breakfast :smile5:) Many are small sites but need to figure out either a correct Postfix or Sendmail with SSL as all my sites emails DIED after adding SSL to the domains.

I heed to start over so maybe, @wardmundy, if youhave an affiliate link for crowncloud, I'd give them a lookie.

I'll be in and out until my new fan arrives, but will check in.

P.S. Hosted Simply was so bad for me,I gave up, reformatted and left it idle - wish I could get my $25 back, but I think it's been over 6 months so...

No affiliate link for CrownCloud, but they appear to be reputable with numerous locations. Imagine waking up to this in your Inbox and actually needing these resources. :death:

Virmach looks compelling for the server I need. Do I wanna go back down this LEB road, or just stick my own ESXi host at someone's house for off-site storage and be done with it. Problem there is initial server cost, maintenance, and the tech support I become for said person/family.

Check out these left-over Virmach Deals from Cyber Monday.

Don't know if it's to be trusted or not, but here's a "whitelist" of LEB Providers ... https://lowendboxes.review/the-whitelist/

There's also a "blacklist" (https://bit.ly/2PnNSsl) that's been growing since the first announcement of the Monday Shutdown that we were alerted to by @kenn10.

Just wonder, though ... how inclusive these lists are, or if there are still some 'ringers' in the mix (likely are).

Guess that it pays to be cautious, and have your backups ready if/when disaster (or deadpool) strikes again.

The merry-go-round doesn't stop! Reference the list: http://nerdvittles.com/?page_id=29839, Hosting73 is on the list of providers that are closing their doors 12/8, and should be removed from "The List."

I'm certainly don't consider myself to be a web search sleuth, but if the "blacklist" can be trusted, (https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussi...g-supremevps-umaxhosting-hosting73-hostbrz-ku) the list of providers shutting down currently includes:

SupremeVPS, UMaxHosting, Hosting73, HostBRZ, KudoHosting, HostedSimply, SnowVPS, DCNHost, ServerStrong, LQHosting, MegaZoneHosting, StrongHosting, Bigfoot Servers, SuperbVPS, x4servers, N3servers, SparkVPS, WelcomeHosting, TCNHosting

FWIW: The WhiteList is pretty carefully monitored by the LowEndTalk regulars, of which there are dozens of (reputable) providers.
