[/Rant] @MisterQ , while you are free to personal opinions of BREXIT and our country, I would request that you keep politics to yourself. The people on this forum are helpful to anyone so long as they are respectful. If you find the USA so offensive, please take your opinions and requests for assistance elsewhere. I generally keep my opinions to myself but on this weekend, the celebration of our Independence from Great Britain, I truly find your remarks offensive.

Just as I believe the Brits wised up and voted to leave the EU, people in the USA are tired of a federal government with excessive overreach. We have an apologist president who continues to embarrass us by apologizing for all the things that make the USA a great country, we have elitist career politicians who do nothing that does not serve their own self-interest, and we have progressives who want to continue social experimentation no matter what the cost in dollars or lives.

When our choice of president comes down to a lying, cheating, deceiving candidate or a ruthless business man who has never held political office, I'll take the business man. Obama has put us in deeper debt than all other presidents in this country combined and there is nothing to show for it. Our borders are virtually open, we embrace potential terrorists into our borders and the progressives look for new ways to make the poor more totally dependent on the government and punish those in the working class for achieving. Our small businesses are being regulated out of existence and our major corporations are fleeing the USA.

Yet you come on this forum complaining about GoogleVoice, a free service, and how you don't like the way it works out for you. I find THAT offensive.

Wise up buddy. You're on the losing end. Great Britain has lost its identity and its way in the world. The BREXIT vote might help turn things around for you. Otherwise, I hope you like paying taxes as a "winner" to fund all the immigrants, losers, sheeple, dumb people, and progressive do-gooders. Let's not forget about the profitable members of the EU having to fund a 30 hour work week in France or the poor spending choices made by Greece for their social programs.

I prefer to earn my keep and keep what I earn. Charity should come from the heart and not at gunpoint from the government.

The great social experiments known as the USSR and Venezuela should be proof enough that socialism does not work.[/rant]

Aaah, my - a tongue in cheek single word, and I get a tongue lashing. What the? The arrogance of some.

1. I have been vocal on Brexit, but certainly not here. I Can only assume that you are now cyberstalking me, or simply making a broad set of assumptions based on the fairly commonly held view that one (or both) or your presidential candidate is a buffoon. Oh, and by the way, my "Day job" is working remotely for a Geopolitical think tank that is actually headquartered in DC, So my work is about non-partisan views of world politics - my comment on the "buffoon" well, that based on overwhelming evidence.

2. I come to this forum complaining about Google Voice - yes, that would be the google that is facing investigation in my country for tax evasion, but I guess they have bought their way out of that in their "home country" with freebies. I am complaining about a "free service" that is free only to some people. If it doesn't work for me, it isn't a free service, but I wasn't complaining about it, being free or not, I was complaining about the poor coding standards (i.e. not actually saying up front - "You are attempting to activate via a non-PSTN/Cell Phone" rather than a "Not available - try again later" error. Or the corporate philosophy that avoids tax in some countries, and gives away freebies in others - I note that Google have formally dropped their corporate motto of "Don't be evil" - one wonders why?

3. Immigrants? Greece, wow - now this is a political whine on your behalf...

4. Celebrating independence. Really - it's been 240 years - get over it, - I am in Australia, and we got a far worse deal than you (ratio of dregs of society to hard working people), and we don't even have a day to commemorate "independence", just to celebrate the founding of our nation. Oh, and we don't rely on 225 year old laws (2nd amendment), given you raised "at gunpoint", as an excuse for killing our own people in droves.

5. Your reference to the "Social experiments of USSR etc" is a fairly clear indication that you have made an assumption that my "politics" is "left wing" - you couldn't be further from the truth - I have been a lifetime, card carrying, member of the "right side" of Australian politics - but, I am as savage with the incompetence of any side of politics.

But, we were talking about VOIP.

I think I have a solution on this - I ranted about this elsewhere, and a friend in the US, with a family member who has no intent to ever use GV, offered me use of their number - I guess once set up, I just have to set the GV number once established to never forward to their mobile - are there likely to be any others gotchas?

Who knows? maybe next week Google changes the rules again, just as they repeatedly do,, you generally get what you pay for, except here perhaps ;-)

Also be aware that of all people they are very "Geo- aware" of you and have certainly used that before.

Once you get set up, you're pretty much OK until Google breaks things again. As @dicko said, it could be tomorrow.

Wow - why all the expense and trouble to simply get a "free" number when buying one costs mere pennies?

But surely, Physical possession here in the land of OZ, will be pointless, as we don't have the Sprint network, that R+ rely upon, so it wouldn't be able to activate.
Continuing that discussion for academic reasons - how does one activate a Ringplus service, from outside of the US, if their service is based on the US Cellular networks.

If you buy a used one, it should already be active. And, even if the phone won't work, the VoIP feature should be adequate (with a U.S. proxy) to give you a U.S. phone number for GV registration.

I noticed a posting that GV was back to working and re-enabled it yesterday, and overnight my asterisk crashed with a lot of messages JABBER: socket read error starting just before 9AM asterisk messages time.

[Jul 7 08:55:50] WARNING[17421] res_xmpp.c: JABBER: socket read error
[Jul 7 08:55:50] ERROR[17421] res_xmpp.c: TLS connection for client 'google1' cannot be established. OpenSSL initialization failed.
[Jul 7 08:55:50] WARNING[17421] res_xmpp.c: Parsing failure: Hook returned an error.

This appears to be a different error type than the past few outage types. After 30K messages over the next 25 minutes my asterisk process appears to have crashed at around 5:20 AM NYC time.

If you're running Asterisk 13, use one of our scripts to update your current version of Asterisk (after making a backup) and see if the problems don't go away.

Hey my Google Voice crashed yesterday. I've done the other fixes on this forum over the past few weeks that fixes things, but today nothing. I'm really not that good at troubleshooting asterisk could someone give me the troubleshooting commands to see if Jabber is the problem. I can type asterisk -r but after that I have no idea what to do.

Google Voice went down for me yesterday with the same OpenSSL failure. Can anyone point me at how to get to Asterisk 13 from an Incredible PBX 11.12.0 for the Pogoplug install? (Asterisk Ver. 11.12.0)? I'd be happy to follow the how-to if there is one somewhere.

Sorry for my delay. For my asterisk 11.10.2, I've made the following:

Code:
cd /usr/src/asterisk*
sed -i 's/SSLv3_method()/SSLv23_method()/g' res/res_xmpp.c
make
make install
amportal restart

Thank you, Ivan!

This worked with Asterisk 11.3.0 today, [CentOS 6.4, PIAF 2.0.6.4, FreePBX 2.11.0.43]. I verified that incoming and outgoing calls work for each GV number we'd set up. My router now shows 11 connections to this server instead of some 4000!

Update-programs and update-fixes scripts no longer work. I get a ginormous list of updates, but then it says "naw, try skip-broken. Then I try that and it goes a little further, aborting with "can't find repositories!". Does anyone have a fix for this? Ward?

BTW, if you have an OBihai device that is out of warranty, it will no longer update it's firmware automatically. You may have lost your GV connectivity. You can easily update your device manually using the firmware here: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=9.0 Note that you'll have to re-visit Obi's cloud admin page to "re-register" your GV account.

Because I typed update-programs and update-fixes and it never works. All the mirrors it tries connecting to fail and it never actually downloads or updates anything. Well, I fixed it and made a video for others like me who don't know what they're doing.

This youtube video fixed my problem. I'm running PBX In A Flash (Green) version 2.0.6.3. FreePBX version 2.11.0.43, and Asterisk version 11.3.0-rc1. In my Connectivity --> Google Voice MOTIF section, my Google Voice account status was showing up as Disconnected. After doing exactly what this video said, everything is working fine again.

I had seen some other people mentioning that if you updated to the latest version, everything would be fixed. I ~think~ I did update (at least, I updated all of my modules, plus did one of the free updates when I SFTP'd to my server) and it still didn't work. This video is what allowed me to get everything going again. Thanks to whomever did it!!

Thanks to nirvgorilla for the video, but his instructions accomplish the same thing as the snippet of command lines. ;)

So we've confirmed this fix works for Asterisk 11.3, 11.4 and 11.7. Probably any version which has that file in that location. All you need is a command line and about 30 seconds. No process kill or reboot necessary.

Code:
cd /usr/src/asterisk*
sed -i 's/SSLv3_method()/SSLv23_method()/g' res/res_xmpp.c
make && make install && amportal restart

I can't seem to find res_xmpp.c to make the edit on my Beagle Board Black install running Incredible PBX with Asterisk 11.13.0

Any ideas?
