Just an FYI that Google has "improved" Google Voice apparently with a view toward eliminating Google Chat support upon which many of us depend. At least when you create a Google Voice accounts, you won't see the traditional option allowing you to enable Google Chat which is a necessary step in setting up Google Voice calling with Asterisk.
At least for now, there appears to be a workaround. After you have set up your new phone number, click on Settings -> Phone Numbers and then click Transfer. That returned the old UI with the Google Chat option already highlighted. You then can disable forwarding calls to your default phone number.
