    RECOMMENDATIONS VM for production system

A lot of things can be done using CLI... I meant the convenience of Veeam - the standard backup tool by now in the VMware world. Paying about $500 for the Essentials license (ESXi) is well worth the price to use Veeam Free... You won't have to resort to CLI again, even to update ESXi itself...

    SUGGESTIONS Cloud, Pi or ??

It was just trying to make a point that a $200 RPi won't sell... RPi's purpose - and success - revolves around being a tinkerer's tool.Proof of concept. IoT, etc. And it is destined to stay there until certain improvements are made: BIOS, PoE, I/O, etc. Whether an attempt will be made to ever...

    SUGGESTIONS Cloud, Pi or ??

That is exactly why I think a $200 RPi will never be released... Newegg had recently the N2807 Brix on sale for $99 (NUC's "relative"). Add a 250GB EVO for $90 and 8GB DDR3L for $45 and you have 10x RPi performance/flexibility for under $250. And this is Canadian dollars, in US it will be under...

    SUGGESTIONS Cloud, Pi or ??

It's hard to make a business case for such RPi. Remember the explanation why they went smaller/cheaper with the Zero model? Because Eric Schmidt said so http://www.geek.com/chips/60-raspberry-pi-scrapped-after-chat-with-googles-eric-schmidt-1640563/ I believe one of the weakest points in the...

    RECOMMENDATIONS VM for production system

My oldest setup runs on a retired Dell PowerEdge 1950 (1U server) with 4GB of RAM (some 10 years old). Completely off the grid. Serving about two dozen people (the IT guys telephone network)... Running ESXi 5.5 off of a USB key. Two mirrored 146GB drives. 40GB PBX + one Win VM. Once had to...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

Isn't this what I said? We have the itch to find and implement the "best"... Does this mean the 3+ years old system is obsolete? Not at all... I do the same but NOT as an upgrade to an existing system! For the record: this is my hobby. I don't make a penny out of this activity... It does not...

TIPS Change from UDP to TCP

Since this is at home (by the sound of it), is it behind a router? What type? To rule out NAT, did you try connecting from a softphone on the same subnet? Let's say the router has 192.168.1.1/24, the asterisk server 192.168.1.10/24 and the softphone 192.168.1.100/24... You have to make some...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

Correct! My most used setup is PIAF from 3.5 years ago. Frozen in time... Zero complains... If I wouldn't have read these forums, I wouldn't know about any changes they made. Not that care now that I know... Then I have half a dozen more of all stripes and colors but the idea to replace that...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

It sure can happen... GOING FORWARD. But today's codebase can't be "locked"... Hence, as long as you are happy with its features/stability set TODAY, you don't have to move to the "golden cage"... Just like Ward said, Asterisk and related telephone systems are one of the most conservative...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

Without diving into GPL licensing too deep, this is the "tivoization" problem GPL3 is suppose to solve. As long as the code is under GPL v.2 you can get away with it. The moment it is GPL v.3 - you can't. Makes XIVO even more attractive - nobody can pull a Sangoma/FreePBX on it!

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

Well, Ward would have to answer those strategy questions... The way I see it, his priority number one is no black boxes, aka clean open source. So that any problem can be tackled by anybody if desired. The FreePBX distribution is deviating from this path. It can be cleaned up of those boxes...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

I can't talk for Ward, but would guess it is not very high on his priority list. Especially now, when there are so many "clean" alternatives...

NEWS FLASH BIG NEWS: FreePBX 13 Support

Unless the FreePBX people start offering free support on these pages (very unlikely!), for this to happen a critical mass of users has to upgrade and start using it (as a minimum). With the trend over the last year or so pointing in the opposite direction (at least among users that frequent...

Did you whitelist the computer's IP address using the add-ip command?

TIPS Change from UDP to TCP

Sounds reasonable... I'd try Zoiper using IAX to rule out the different SIP flavours... To narrow down the search: does this setup work without openvpn in the mix? After making it work - with acrobatics - when does is stop working? When trying to make a second call? When restarting the softphone?

TIPS Change from UDP to TCP

What softphone is used? Have you tried others? What platform? Win/Mac/Android/iOS? Asterisk installed where? How? What version? Hardware? Cloud? Doing at home? Router? ISP? You have to work on your questions to hope get answers...

RECOMMENDATIONS SCCP <--> SIP under PIAF

Can you try (any) SIP softphone instead of the Yealink?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Cloud at Cost is Garbage really

And that is exactly the consensus since the day Ward mentioned C@C for the first time. Some people just take it personally... I have two identical Astrerisk servers running 9 Nortel IP 2002/2004 phones using the UNISTIM channel driver (and a couple SIP softphones). Both servers' IPs are in the...

RECOMMENDATIONS SCCP <--> SIP under PIAF

This never worked for me. Last time I tried was a few weeks ago... Was the SCCP device a softphone? I tried only with Cisco 79XX IP phones...
