I too have been looking for a click to call feature for Mac OS and here's what I've found so far:
- CallControl - $25, free 30-day demo. 2.0 was just released a few weeks ago.
- Dialectic - $25, free demo.
- AsteriskC2D - $30 and no update since 2010. A little unclear if it will work with Lion.
- DIY Address Book Dialing - Free. Very old article, so it may not be relevant to newer versions of Mac OS.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I'll chime in with my (very) recent experience of two of these. I have been testing AsteriskC2D and CallControl on my MacBookPro running Lion 10.7.3 with my FreePBX install (v 2.9.0.10 with Asterisk 1.8.7.0) over the past few days. These are my initial findings:
1. AsteriskC2D. Requires client (Mac) and Asterisk side configuration. As you will note from my post [URL='
http://pbxinaflash.com/community/threads/odd-log.11675/#post-79201[/URL] in this forum, this can be slightly tricky to get up and running initially (at least it was for me, YMMV) as it requires the installation of a some perl modules, notably Net::Telnet and Mysql (make sure you install the right module, see the post referred to above) under CPAN, together with 2 perl scripts from the developer which must be installed and configured to suit your installation under /var/www/cgi-bin. Then the AMI needs to be suitably configured using the manager.conf and manager_additional.conf files in etc/asterisk. Finally the client side app needs to be installed and configured, there are some post-install workarounds for file permissions too which need to be applied before it works. The end result is that it all works, but for my taste it is actually bit slow/laggy to run, albeit it is stable (or at least it has been over the past 12 hours in testing!!)
2. CallControl. This is very straightforward (practically 1-click) client side application to install - and there was a 2.0.1 bug update released yesterday. There are now user manuals available in the help-desk area on the website. The performance is very snappy as CallControl maintains an open AMI connection with your Asterisk server. Unfortunately I am experiencing some issues (which may be related only to my install) which cause CallControl to randomly disconnect from AMI (the socket connection is dropped). Sebastian, the developer (who I must say is very responsive/helpful), and I are currently running through various debugs to ascertain what is causing the AMI socket connection to drop.
3. Dialectic. I just installed this app a few hours ago. Appears very well integrated with OS X, Safari and Address Book in particular. Full featured (pretty long list of supported dial methods besides asterisk), however I don't think it has he ability to integrate Incoming Call Detection with Asterisk, unlike CallControl, which is a bit of a shame. So far it is equal in speed to CallControl (uses AMI or AJAM) and does not have the annoying socket disconnect issue I'm experiencing with CallControl. I quite like it ;-)
Hope that little insight helps some!
Cheers
Sean
