Has anyone tested PHP 7.2 with 13-13 and incredible pbx on a Centos 7 box? Or have reason to believe it will work or not work?

I'm looking to install Nextcloud on the machine

It won't work. PHP 7+ breaks too many things.

For FreePBX 13 the default CentOS 7 PHP 5.4 is probably about perfect.

Even PHP 5.6 wasn't officially supported until FreePBX 14.

Although originally targeted for FreePBX 15, PHP 7 won't be supported until FreePBX 16 according to the April blog post.

And from that post, Oops, sometimes things go off-track!

Parting Words
In the next few months you’ll be hearing from me again as we release High Availability 14 and announce our stable release of FreePBX 15.

The same Andrew Nagy, who has now bailed from the project together with almost all the other Schmoozers.

FreePBX 15 is actually pretty great. I've been playing with it and the improvements are noticeable. It actually runs faster, has a far better UCP, and while I haven't tried the backup/restore, this is a big thing they were talking about being improved and I hope to get some time to try it during the next rainy days.

If Sangoma is currently hurting for QA in the FreePBX department, I recommend people get active in testing and submitting issues. Then it can more quickly get those labels of "supported" and "stable."

I don't know who's left on the paid staff for FreePBX development but I don't think it's necessarily true that Andrew and "...almost all the other Schmoozers" have completely bailed from the project. I hope that, in the spirit of open source collaboration, they continue to contribute as they have the opportunity.

It is still considered beta software is it not? And all those people are gone now soooo......

Re: "beta software" - that was my point. But if you don't want to help out, you can move along to other things. There's kvetching all the time about whether FreePBX is truly open source (yes, it is) - but funny thing, open source projects thrive on the bug reporting and contributions of the community. Somehow it seems like FreePBX is supposed to be fully open source and at the same time produced entirely by Sangoma & given to the community for free, perfect and bug-free?

More on "beta"... you have shown support here for FreeSWITCH which for a long time - maybe still - didn't have the concept of a stable production release. A release was just a cut where the developers felt like it. Not necessarily more stable or higher quality or anything. It was a turn-off to me. The mantra from the dev team in the IRC channel was always "are you running master? if not, upgrade..." Makes no sense to me for production-level systems.

Anyway, like I said, FreePBX 15 is a nice upgrade and if you are concerned about "beta" then lend a hand.

As a comment, I will say that I have been using asterisk@home and it's derivatives for a very long lime, and, yes it is all open source
(apart from the commercial modules that many think are actually part of FreePBX)

FreePBX got more and more commercial and decided to only support one particular variant of one OS.
Ward et al. continued to embrace ARM and Debian distros

There was a time when everyone got on swell . . .
Then things got nasty . . .
Many of the personal abrasiveness is now moot as people move on. . .
Time for a reconciliation maybe?

Now we see that Sangoma have given up on Zend and maybe everyone can play nice again and FreePBX will again be mainstream on other but "the distro"

We will hopefully also see a reduction in the abrasiveness when is comes to non-Sangoma input as the gritty bits have left.

If we are talking about Omens. You hardly see any mention of FreePBX on the Sangoma website. It used to be all over the place. They mostly just talk about PBXact. I don't know much about PBXact or Digiums SwitchVox product but seems to me they are kind of the same sort of product are they not? So I would imagine one of them will be phased out. I guess it's the same situation with their overlapping phone products.

Again from the posted link (did you actually read it?)

'Commercial modules will also work with FreePBX 16 without the need or use of Zend.'

Yes they will still need to obfuscate, (my guess is ioncube which is more catholic)

But that all depends on the arrival of 16 and 15 is still far from finished yet.

God, I hope you're right. That would be nice. I too have been around since the beginning and hope that FreePBX continues to be open, supported, and grows. Let's also not forget that its not just FreePBX, Digium - Asterisk is now with Sangoma also, which is what scares me - is one company being responsible for so many parts, and if they give up on it or migrate towards commercial only ... then what?

Well my backup plan has been for a few years FreeSwitch, with the addition of FusionPBX its getting close enough for the smaller systems and has a nice t38 fax solution , Ive used kamailio for a proxy for a while for both FPBX and FSWITCH .

I genuinely like dSiprouter as a nice gooey for the middleman .

As yet the bigger operations with agents and queues and complicated heirarchies still fit better with FPBX . . .

So the demise of fpbx open source wouldnt be catastrophic but definitely something I would prefer not to happen

I wouldn't count all the FreePBX retirees out just yet. :lurk5:

Do you mean that in a good or bad way? Are there any early schmooze people still influencing FreePBX?

OP here.

What are your thoughts on running two versions of php. Included 5.4 and 7.2 using php-fpm . Apache conf assigns php on a per directory basis. I'd use a directory that's adjacent, not a child.

I was looking at this guy's howto which is very similar to others. I'd use yum install php-fpm, for the correct version, instead of his php56-php-fpm
https://medium.com/@daniel.bui/multiple-php-version-with-apache-on-centos-7-17078c66692c

I'm thinking it could break if php versions are upgraded in a future PBX update, but I kinda doubt there will be a PHP update pushed anytime soon, if ever. Is that true, is there something else I should be concerned about?

My goal is to run nextcloud which wants 7.2 or 3. And maybe suitecrm which is a pretty cool sugar fork

It's an off-premises, dedicated server that I want to get the most use out of.

A lot of FreePBX php stuff runs outside of Apache. If CentOS allows setting the default php it may have a chance, but I've never tried.

If it's a dedicated server, my first thought goes to virtualization or maybe docker.
