Just tried again. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here's a video comparing this WootHosting VPS against one of our HiFormance VPS's that costs $13/year. You can judge the difference for yourself...

Hello,

There was abuser on host node. We take appropriate action against it and suspended those servers. We are still monitoring the host node.
The server load is normal. Please check the performance.

Just tested our status script again. As I said, this script typically runs on hosted platforms in under one second. On your server moments ago, it took over 30 seconds to display the results. Sorry, but that not "working fine" in my book.

We're back up to over a minute to load a script that typically runs on other virtual platforms in under one second. Can your other customers really be this bad? Sounds more like a server capacity issue to us??

Worse than ever this morning. A sub-one-second app took almost 3 minutes to load and run.

Bandwidth hogs are back and performance is worse than ever. Our usual one-second script takes 55 seconds to run this morning.

Thanks. Still takes about 10 seconds to run a trivial script that runs almost instantaneously on a dozen other VPS platforms that we support. Not as bad as CloudAtCost, but you're getting close. :)

Still dog slow. We have a status script that typically runs in less than 1 second on other servers. It's taking close to 45 seconds to run on this server... still.

You're seeing an update script which automatically runs on our PBX whenever you login as root. It doesn't have anything to do with the poor performance we are experiencing. We run identical PBXs on a dozen servers around the country, and none have the performance issues we experience in your NYC pop. That includes several running with WootHosting in other cities. Thanks.

We've had a server in your NYC hub for several months. IP address is 192.227.173.13. Awful doesn't begin to describe the performance. Typical response time for even trivial commands from the CLI is upwards of 30 seconds. Any idea what's going on?? Thanks.

BUYER BEWARE: One of the most terrible services and support ever (and possible fraud), i bought a VPS and paid via PayPal, the first day the services was "UNPAID" so i opened a ticket and a dispute via PayPal, after that Woothosting support, simply canceled the service and DEMANDED to close the dispute to activate the VPS, according to PayPal support team, that is a fraud, so i had to wait the dispute resolution to get my money back... No VPS, No service and 2 week without my money.... The WORST!

EDIT: BTW, in order to get the VPS i needed, i had to use Hiformance (See this post: https://pbxinaflash.com/community/threads/hiformance-2gb-openvz-1-mo.22039/), no problems so far, good VPS, performance according to price....

Well, my tolerance with woothosting has ended.

I have my mail server running on one of their systems - and I've been down since 9AM Thursday morning. The machine shows up as 'Offline' in their panel and rebooting/booting/etc will not bring it up (although the panel tells me the effort was 'Successful').

I noticed the problem 15 hours ago and opened a trouble ticket - so far no response. My other VPS in another location is up and running, so it isn't a 'banned client' issue.

My VPS is supposed to be up 99.9% of the time (they've blown that), is supposed to be 4 core allocation (8086?), with 2GB of memory and 2GB of swap( this part might be true)

The machine has always had slowdown issues, and I have a cron job running each day to reboot it (perhaps a reboot just spurs their system to give me higher allocation for a few hours (?).

Time to look for something actually reliable since I can't go for days without business email.

Woothosting has returned my VPS to a state where I can ssh in (no explanation of what/why/etc. that it was unavailable for 2 days).

Unfortunately, it is broken - mysql won't start and, as a mail server, it isn't working. I opened a support ticket with the iredmail guys and hopefully they can fix it for $99 (until I move somewhere else and rebuild).

I'd mess with it myself, but I'm now on lots and lots of Percocet leading up to surgery. I slipped in the ice yesterday and snapped my patella in two (that was a pretty picture - and yes, I took one at the hospital).

Hope everyone is well.

Just a follow up so I can vent some more.

I'm still using woothosting to run my VPS/email server (FIOS wont give me a residential fixed IP).

For the last 2 days my VPS has been down. So, at the beginning of the process I sent a tech support ticket saying my IP is down. I get a support response back "did you make changes to your server. please answer so we may better help you."

I respond back 'no, I have made no changes; it's just down'.

I continue to send updates saying 'fix it'.

Hours later I get a new support person adding to the log 'did yoiu make changes to your server. please answer so we may better help you."

I go balistic and send more 'this is your fault' and include a screen shot of the 'down server'.

Around midnight I get a response that 'they are looking into it'.

This AM I get a response from a third support person with (you guessed it): 'did you make changes to your server. please answer so we may better help you.'

My response was not family friendly.

How many moving parts does a VPS have? If mine is down, wouldn't the whole node be down?

So, woothosting has now replied that they have tried everything, but my VPS is crashed. To fix it they want to wipe the data and reinstall the OS. And lose all my data!

Unfortunately, I’ve been using my web access to email for months and haven’t opened Outlook - so I’m out months of data.

Can anyone suggest a VPS provider at around $100/year or less with acceptable speed and a 100GB of disk space?

My current VPS, when it ran, was $18 a year with 150 GB, 2 GB of ram/2GB swap and allegedly 4 cores (although those cores must have been from an 80186 given the speed I put up with).

Help?

With the proviso that I wouldn't trust ANY low-cost provider without having a secondary source with frequent rsync replication, start here ($25/year) and here ($35/year) and here ($39/year) and here ($50/year).

And the drama continues.

They 'fixed' my unfixable problem (after telling me the VPS had to be wiped to be restarted and me telling them to fix it/not wipe it) and my email server suddenly began working (yes, I copied the data off).

My second VPS, which I planned to make into a test PBX to test my Yealink VPN issue wouldn't restart after a CentOS reinstall. They had to move my IP to get me up and running after a day (and yet they claim a 99.9% uptime?).

Today's Issue:

Well, I ran a iperf between the two nodes and I'm at 100 port speed (on at least one machine). Their reply to my follow up support ticket was "I need to buy a 1GBPS upgrade'.

My response was to pull up the .jpg which Ward posted to this thread with the $18/year offer and 1000 port speed clearly shown. Since I was at it, I thought I should also check the core allocation (the memory seems right).

I ran 'grep -c ^processor /proc/cpuinfo' which should have returned *4*. It returned 2.

So, I've been complaining about dog slow service for 2 years - and for 2 years I've been receiving half the core allocation I paid for - no wonder it's slow.

Ward, thanks for putting that .jpg in your thread (post #16) - nothing I can find has the port speed or cores - just a receipt with $18/year and an IP.

We'll see what they reply with. Probably a lame 'it's fixed' and no apology. In another month or two, they will likely have reset it back to 2 cores and 100 port speed. Seems to be their business model.

They seem to be trying to compete with CloudAtCost for worst rot-gut provider.

I just got an email announcing that Woothosting has been acquired by AlphaRacks. Should I expect better, or even possibly worse, service going forward?

I would count on same or worse or better (it depends on your past experiences)

I tried WootHosting - never worked right, and the tech support was abysmal - had to fight for a refund (their policy is 24 hours...really - F-
I currently have AlphaRacks, have a production PBX there and it shuts itself off at LEAST once a week for nno apparent reason and Tech support is no help.

You get what you pay for, as they say. I need a stable PRODUCTION host, not experimental where it doesn't matter if phones go down for no reason.

I have my own dedicated server and had mine there but split off the PBX so if my Dedi-Box went down my phones would not be affected.

Take your chances if you want, but I have had problems at both.

Kevin,

I've heard about the problems with AlphaRacks. My question/statement was more rhetorical/sarcastic than anything else.

I use my woothosting server as a mail server (no static IP from FIOS at home - thanks a lot). I've built up a level a 'non-spam trust', so I don't want to move somewhere else and start over with my emails bouncing.

Woothosting has been nothing but drama for me - and not the good kind.

Not to rub salt in the wound but we've had a Cloud@Cost server up and running for 3 whole weeks without a hiccup. That's gotta be a record. I think everyone bailed on them so the performance is actually pretty good if you happen to still have an account there. :driving:

I'm afraid to put this in writing and jinx myself but my Vultr and Hosting73 instances have been up for weeks with no problems. I actually like Hosting73 at this point.

I had (previously) instances stay up for months. The latest round of losses was 3-4 weeks ago, maybe a bit longer.

Very low loading (no PBX), but I'm not convinced that matters.

Don't care, it takes me literally 10 minutes to spin up a new one for my needs (assuming it actually builds and has network connectivity, 50/50 at best).

The Google Cloud experiment has been a good one because it highlights how much difference there is in some of these platforms. For example, using Google Cloud's $25/month standard platform with zero call activity, we still are getting some notifications with a recommendation to further beef up the platform: "This instance has had high CPU and memory utilization recently. "

Performance-wise, the $25/month Google Cloud platform doesn't hold a candle to most of the six $1/month VPS platforms we've identified. Subjectively, they appear to provide about 10 times the performance as well. So, yes, there is a risk that one or more of the cheapos may someday go out of business, but backups and redundant servers are easy at this point for very little cost.

Oh well, time to delete and re-spin.

Yup, they also bough NFP Hosting as well.

Just hope things improve, havent really heard good things about AlphaRacks to be honest.

Most of the complaints are they randomly shut down users servers every day to every couple of days and they need to be manually turned back on by the end user

Now that I think about it, with all the flack woothosting got, they were stilla pretty good host.

I mean yes they would shutdown the host machine without notice, but it wasnt really often.

They over provisioned like crazy but I have seen worse, and their customer service was still one of the better ones around.

Always responded within 5min to an hour and other then them corrupting my mail servers db, never really had an issue with them, but of course I stopped using them for anything other then a cheap dev environment and nothing intensive.

I think I might even miss them.
