We've removed SolvedByData from the recommended list after receiving alerts that they now are blocking the UDP 5060 SIP port claiming it is a "streaming service" prohibited by their TOS. Idiots!

They are idiots, when you look at the amount of traffic and horsepower a small PBX uses compared to other server uses, they should like PBX traffic, not discourage it.

HiFormance is still challenging my paypal claim. Hilarious - you can't charge for a 3 year service and deliver 3 months and think you get to keep the money . . . . paypal is as usual dragging their feet.

Did you escalate it asap? I didn't even wait for them to respond. I did it right away and got my refund shortly after.

Any Luck? Paypal just automatically decline my claim right away. I bought 3 years of service as well ;(
I used my service for 4 month and lost all of my data and money... What should I do?

I don't why they would deny your claim. I went through the 2-week waiting process after filing for refund and then they refunded all money. In the initial claim, I showed it as a claim for service and stated that they shut down abruptly and I lost my service and all the work I had done with the server.

We've now tested another provider, HostedSimply, which we will add to our list of low-cost provider options with the same warnings. Excellent performance.

You can open a ticket and request a free upgrade to the 1Gbps port pursuant to their LowEndBox offer...

Code:
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 909.41 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 501.72 Mbit/s

Ward, I am going to set up a new server but wondered about the server name questions. What do I put there and how do I direct traffic to it. With rentpbx it was a simple ServerName.Rentpbx.com

You need a DNS provider and a domain. Either your own domain, or you can use a free DNS service like DynDNS and use one of their domains, there by creating subdomain just for your use.

Our favorite domain registration service is omnis.com. They provide .us domains for $7.95 a year ($9.95 for .net), and their (free) DNS tools are the best in the business.

How long you been using them? Assume they support me using my own DNS server (DNSmadeEasy) as well?

About 15 years. And, yes, you can link domains to any DNS server you like if you don't want to use their services. They have some really neat features nobody else has such as DNS cloaking which lets you link to some other web site and masquerade it with your own FQDN.

I've been using DynDNS for years myself and had great luck. They also support a client app for people with dynamic IP addresses so that the actual DNS address is always updated when the IP address changes. They have a free tier but the Pro tier offers a lot more features.

DynDNS dropped the free tier several years ago.

I've been using ChangeIP and their free tier ever since with no complaints.

Some of us "old-coots" got grandfathered in (literally) at DynDNS.

That is interesting because my claim was denied automatically as 180 days "deadline" was passed. I sent an email to Paypal asking for reconsideration.

If you're signing up for one of these services that's in the $10/year range, you basically get a PayPal warranty for half of your investment, i.e. up to six months which is half the cost. I got all of my money back on several VPSs that I'd used for over 4 months. And those over the six month mark, I had to absorb the losses. Seems like a pretty fair tradeoff actually. But a 3-year signup would be a pretty dumb idea with these operators.

I signed up in August so I was under the 6 month mark. PayPal did some back and forth emails with me and I stressed that the company shut down without warning and I lost a great deal of work as a result. I suggested that there was a fraudulent business practice since they didn't bother to let people have enough time to save their work. I did get a full refund of $13 but I wasn't expecting to get anything. I was not going to waste a lot of time to recover what amounted to lunch money so I didn't expect anything. I was pleased to get anything back.

Yeah - it was really stupid decision to invest 3-years of service with a new under priced service. I guess I learned a lesson learned as I thought all companies are honest.

I also think if I have acted right away, I would have more chance of getting my money back because I realized it this year. As December was my sixth month, I think I would had a better chance.

I spend $30 for about 4-5 months, which is around $7.5. I think I will think this as a life lesson. (Also, it would have cost around $7.5 to host in legit server (like DO) anyways :(
