Funny - they keep sending me threatening e-mails if not paid within 24 hours we'll delete you.

I'm not paying - so either delete me or don't - but piss off and stop sending me those LOL

Still searching for a hungry lawyer to take this on. It's a perfect class action lawsuit.

Definitely questionable business practice. The "Sandbox" servers were pretty useless since they tend to crash quite often due to CAC's carelessness. Submitting tickets is a farce. They take days to answer and then close the ticket without any option to response AND then they delete the server! WTF!

Now they want us to pay an annual fee for a really lousy service that was supposed to be a permanent full-paid up front service? Not a chance they are getting another dime. Time to cut the losses and run! (and that is what they are hoping for, steal some money and provide little other than empty promises).

I have filed a complaint with the government as well.

Sad.

I too, have been getting reminders regarding a "24 hour suspension notice" daily! I first sent an email to "Billing", but that went nowhere. Next, I sent an email to their "Support" to open a ticket, but after 6 days now, I still haven't received any reply, or canned statement. Funny, but my two servers are still working. Go figure.

I reviewed their sign up procedure on their site, but couldn't find any Sales info that would lead one to believe there might be an on-going maintenance fee. Their website is definitely either misleading, or missing a few key facts. Either way, it sux!

There terms page spells out the fee:
From: http://www.cloudatcost.com/terms.php
9.18 Customers with a onetime payment service is subject to an annual maintenance fee of $9 which will be invoiced 12 months after using our service. This does not apply to users that have a monthly paid service. This Maintenance fee will ensure proper hardware upgrades and maintenance to reduce degradation of onetime payment services.

And when was this TOS put in play?

Soo ... "
  1. CloudatCost reserves the right to change fees or charges without notice to you. Your continued use of the Service after a change in fees shall constitute your acceptance of such change in fees.
Essentially - we'll charge what we want, when we want. OK - I've wasted enough energy on this silliness. If there's a class action against these clowns, let me know - I've kept my harassing e-mails that come every day telling me that in less than 24 hours they'll disconnect.

I've been receiving "Suspension" notices daily. After sending an email to their "Support" just over a week ago, I finally received the reply below, with a second email sent virtually at the same time soliciting "Feedback" on their support, with the opeing line: " At Cloud At Cost we're always striving to deliver the best customer support in the industry". Seriously?

Their Ticket response:
Support Ticket #6286xxxx has been updated

Description:
Hello Xxxx,

The maintenance fee was outlined in the updated Terms of Service on March 3rd and users were informed as they logged into their panel.cloudatcost.com accounts (notification and agreement were required in order to continue). This fee is not a charge on your previously purchased services (or it would apply to every purchased package) and it is not a fee on the packages purchased as it is per account and not per service.

And has always been included in the terms:

"EACH TIME THE CUSTOMER USES THIS SITE OR THE SERVICES, THE CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT HAS READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREES TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE"

"CloudatCost reserves the right to change fees or charges without notice to you. Your continued use of the Service after a change in fees shall constitute your acceptance of such change in fees."

Did any of you guys actually believe that you could get a forever server for a one-time charge? That's like a perpetual motion machine!
OVH and Vultr (gotta love these names!) have great servers that run PBXs flawlessy for $2.50 (limit 2) and OVH ($3.49) a month.
If you don't want to spend that, well....

OVH is in Quebec, but certainly not running on a Fibernetics server.

Forever would have been nice, but for crap service I can stick to $0.75/mo. for six instances ($0.125/mo per instance). It beats them going out of business and leaving me with nothing for my initial buy in...

But then I have nothing critical running, rebuilds are completely done in under an hour and data loss is not an issue. In fact, once things are up and running I don't even care if the file system goes read only (happens quite often).

I'm currently using mine to learn how FreeBSD works as a vps, nothing mission critical, cant rely on C@C for important stuff

No FanBoi here, but I remain part of the minority who has no real problems. I've been running three C@C servers totaling the equivalent of 8 Dev1 systems 24/7 for multiple years, now, without any real hiccups. I paid peanuts in one-time charges over time for that total batch of cloud resources (8 CPUs; 80 GB disk; 4096 MB RAM) when I got them (as in, 60-90% off), and decided the $9 (currently) annually ($0.75/month; $0.09375 -- less than ten cents per Dev1 equivalent [1 CPU/10 GB disk/1024 MB RAM]/month) was fine even for potentially wonky crap.

But if anyone hears about a lawsuit, I'm all ears. :)

And the fun begins (again)...

Five of my six servers mysteriously stopped working late last week (Friday I think). Attempts to spin up new ones usually fail or just sit for hours/days "Pending". On the off chance one actually builds it fails the network test and is useless.

Interestingly, yesterday I could try (in vain) to build on DC-2 or DC-3, tonight only DC-2 is an option...

Are they running a new promo, or are they getting ready to run off with my/our money now that they have taken another $9?
