PIAF with Asterisk 1.8 Beta4
Hi All

Just a short note to tell you that we have decided to release PBX in a Flash - Purple which contains Asterisk 1.8 Beta 4/FreePBX 2.8.X.

While we have added the Beta moniker to this it really is ALPHA software so be warned!

We are releasing this to hopefully have a positive impact on the development of both Asterisk 1.8 and Freepbx. The more people that test the beta the better the finished product will be. We also hope that it will help to minimize the breakage of existing ancillary programs due to WAP (Wild Ass Programming)

PIAF - Purple seems to work with the majority of our BASIC ancillary programs but has NOT been tested with the Incredible PBX AT ALL. Testing with the Incredible PBX won't start until the Asterisk 1.8/FreePBX combination is stable.

Some mods were made to make FreePBX install but none of the modules install automatically thus you will need to install all of the modules in the FreePBX GUI.

If there is a problem with our programs please let us know. If there are problems with Asterisk or FreePBX please open a ticket on their respective bug tracking systems and let them know. I would request that if you open a bug report on their trackers you send us a short note in this thread telling us about it.

ALSO!

THIS VERSION OF PIAF IS NOT FOR PRODUCTION!!!!

Rather it is for those who like to live on the bleeding edge and don't mind getting cut regularly.

The only way to get PIAF Purple is to download the PDF file and read it in its entirety. Until Asterisk 1.8 is stable we won't be releasing an updated ISO which includes the purple option.

Get the document:

http://www.pbxinaflash.org/1755/docs/PurpleBeta.pdf

Lastly because this is in active development the payload package for purple may be updated without notice. We will try to notify you when major milestones are implemented as time permits......

Best regards

Tom

Please help me! I just recently put PBX in a Flash - Purple which contains Asterisk 1.8 Beta 3/FreePBX 2.8.X. into production and everything is broken. I've attached 2 meg of meaningless jumble and I don't have a clue what I'm doing but if you could tell me the one thing I've done wrong that will fix everything I sure would appreciate it!
P.S. None of this is my fault, its just because people don't make good software and everything and everybody stinks...

Ok, I couldn't resist being the first to send a ridiculous note like this!!!
Thanks for the Alpha-Beta Release before this came out I actually had a little spare time, I'll of course have to experiment with this release. I appreciate all of the teams efforts..

Regards,

Brian

Trouble is......... it might be the first of many..... However I did get a chuckle. The rather verbose warnings in the pdf file seem to be mandatory these days. But there is always one who does skips past the warnings and then posts in the forums.

Enjoy..... I worked on this while I was on vacation out on our dive boat..... damn satellite internet was flakey.... but it was a good way to use my surface intervals between dives.

I have a test system running FreePBX 2.8 and Asterisk 1.8 and so far it seems to work OK. I have not pushed it beyond a trunk reg and a couple of extensions.

Hopefully, people just use it in the lab until 1.8 is "really" ready for production.

And how likely are people to just keep it in the lab? hehe I am waiting for the floodgates to open......

I have it running just fine as my backup pbx in the lab. So far so good but I don't don't use any advanced features.

Just uploaded PIAF Purple with Asterisk 1.8Beta4 as the payload. Still testing it out but I thought you pioneers would want a crack at it ASAP.

Hey Tom,

Gotta ask if I put it in the lab and it passes WAF can I then role it into the workshop

Seriously, is there anything specific you need people to bang on or are you just looking for generic stuff at this point. I might try it on my Revo lab unit latter in the week.

Safer to keep WAF related machine on a separate, stable box and IAX to lab so she can reach you in the workshop...

you are funny ! Mostly I want people to bash away on it. The whole purpose of this exercise is to deafen the asterisk developers with good and bad feedback so we might get something we want this time and help prevent them from obsoleting useful features for no reason other than programming for programming's sake.

yah I know I am preaching on my soapbox again sorry about that.... WAF real funny......

thanks for the interest
