I've set up many Polycoms. There is a lot of mis-information about them, but I have found what works for my installations, and it is very easy- especially if you just have one or two to provision. Here is the brief on how to do it:
Log into the phone (Get the IP address by pressing menu, 2,2,1, assuming DHCP is already set.)
User name = Polycom (case sensitive)
Factory PW = 456
Click on Lines
Display Name = ext number
Address = ext number
Auth User ID = ext number
Auth Password = ext number (or pw if different)
Label = ext number
Number of Line Keys = 1 (in most cases)
Everything else should be blank until the Server 1 field.
Server 1
Address = IP or hostname of PIAF
Port = 5060
Transport = DNSnaptr
Expires = blank, or if necessary, 30
Register =1
Retry time out = blank
Retry Max Count = blank
Line Sieze Time Out = 30
Optionally, configure Server 2 if you have a fail over server
Message Center
Subscriber = blank
Callback Mode = Contact
Callback Contact = *97
Continue with lines 2 and 3 if desired with different extension numbers.
Click on Submit. Phone will reboot. Wait a few minutes- display will come back- wait another minute or so, and log in again.
Click on SIP
Under Outbound Proxy
Address = blank
Port = blank
Transport = DNSnaptr
Server 1
Address = blank
Port = blank
Leave the rest at factory settings, but scroll down to...
Local Settings
Local SIP Port = (if this is a remote phone, this must be a unique number for each phone on the network, i.e.5060, 5061, etc. If a single phone, or on the same network as the PIAF, leave blank or set to 5060)
Digitmap =(Can be customized- use factory defaults, or google to learn about the Polycom digitmaps. Factory default may suffice for your application)
Digitmap Timeout = 3|3|3|3|3|3
Digitmap Impossible Match = 2
Click on Submit. Wait. You'll need to log in again.
Log in again, and click on Network.
RTP Port Settings
Forced Port = blank
Port Range Start = blank
Network Address Translation
IP Address = blank
Signalling Port = blank
Media Port Start = blank
Click on submit. Wait.
Log in one last time. Click on the General tab
User Preferences
One Touch Voice Mail = enable
Time
SNTP Server = ntp.nasa.gov (or whatever)
GMT Offset = (-8 here in California)
SNTP Resync Period = 86400
Set the Daylight Savings for your needs. Polycom has a word on this- Google for the correct settings, else your time may be off for part of the year.
Click submit. There are many tweaks within the firmwar that can optimize the phone for your application. But for now, the phone should work.
In some rare cases- I have had to change the NAT parameters, but that is pretty rare.
With a larger deployment, bulk provisioning via FTP is much quicker...
Hope it helps.
