I received the following message from Vitelity this afternoon...

Dear Customer,

We are excited to announce that Vitelity now supports SMS messaging on most of our local numbers. The DIDs tab now has a submenu called SMS that will allow you to enable SMS on a number assigned to you. You can now search our inventory for numbers with SMS capabilities as well.

The Vitelity SMS product is only for person-to-person communications and not software applications or code. Our software has universal Jabber support, so any smart phone user can immediately take advantage of SMS capabilities on your number. Our own application is available for Windows and can be downloaded by visiting http://s.ms . On our S.ms site you can find required settings for all supported platforms. We will be offering a version of the IM+ smartphone application in the next two weeks.

Any local numbers not currently showing support for SMS we will port to our SMS enabled platform free of charge (subject to availability, up to 30day delay. Access page from SMS submenu on DIDs tab).

Retail SMS rates are $1 monthly per DID number and 4.9 cents per message or unlimited messaging for $9.95 per month. Our textMe.im platform will available next week for a completely unbranded wholesale solution.

Although our S.ms platform has been throughly tested, this week we are considering SMS as pre-production and we will have all of our senior development team online to help with any issues. If you experience any problems, please open a ticket under 'SMS' so that our dev team can work on your issue the soonest possible.

For this special launch we are also offering the chance to join the Vitelity Developer Network. Our API has been completely rewritten to support REST with both XML and flat text capabilities. Login to our portal and visit http://portal.vitelity.net/dev/ to signup.

Sincerely,

Vitelity Communications

Sounds very interesting - the message included a verification code which I edited out of the quote above so I'm not sure how much of their customer base was included...
