I realize I need to do a reinstall to go to the later versions.

My question is about the process. I do a nightly backup of the extensions, voicemails, etc.

The way I understand it, I would need to get the backup done.

I would basically install a new hard drive in the pbx machine to have something to fall back on if it should go wrong.

Install the pbxiaf package I want.

Then I could restore the backups and all my settings would be there?

Is that it? Any caveats? Any issues I should be aware of?

Or image your your disk, with Clonezilla for example, and restore if you need to.

It sounds like you are asking if you can back up your 1.8 machine, install a fresh disk, install a completely new (and presumably much newer) version of PIAF, and then (seamlessly) restore the (ver. 1.8) backup to the much newer version of PIAF so that "all your settings would be there."

I'm not sure you can do that. Things have moved waaaay past 1.8. It would be good if I were wrong. Others who know more will hopefully chime in...

I have upgraded from PIAF Purple 2.0.6.0 Freepbx 2.9 Asterisk 1.8 to PIAF Green 3.0.6.5 Freepbx 2.9 Asterisk 11.

I used the freepbx full backup and restore tool.

I made sure the hostname and passwords were exactly the same as the old box.

The only thing that broke was conferencing, and that is because PIAF Green default asterisk compile does not include meetme.

I did this on 4 different boxes.

I have also managed to upgrade from a 32bit install to a 64 bit install using the same process.
