I tried to use the built in irc client in Freepbx and got this error message

If you wish to change this to your normal nickname, you can type '/nick yournickname', and your nick will change. This is an ENGLISH ONLY support channel. Sorry.

There is no connection to irc.freenode.

That is the FreePBX support channel which is on Freenode, but using a special client. Also, I don't think that was a error.

You can join #pbxinaflash by typing '/j #pbxinaflash' from the FreePBX IRC client.

When the chat popup loads, you will see a bunch of text in the middle of the window from #freepbx, a list on the right with all the nicknames in the channel, a few tabs at the bottom, and above that a long rectangular box. You type it into the box and press enter. A new tab loads, and you are in #pbxinaflash. To talk, just type, and press enter.

Do you have Java installed? The IRC client requires it.

Some discussion of community building has gone on in other threads so I thought i'd put in a plug for IRC. FreePBX, Asterisk, Trixbox and other projects have a thriving IRC community so I'd love to see at least a few more lurkers in the #pbxinaflash channel. I'm gonna start at least lurking in there when I'm on IRC and provide any meager support I can that way.

Anybody care to join me? Gets mighty lonely in there! James, your always on IRC. Jump in there too even if you don't have time to talk much!

There seems to be 12 or so users logged in now, but no conversation. and no responses

are these just accounts that are logged on, but users out for the moment?

Hey Global,

The channel doesn't get used much. I tried to gen up some usage months ago and logged on most evenings but never had much success getting others to monitor it. My guess is those are people who have IRC automatically log them in but are pretty much permanently AFK.

I wanted to mention. If anyone needs IRC help login irc.freenode.net and go to channel #freepbx. There are a few users from pbxinaflash that hang out there, including me from time to time. If you use Blue.Box (formerly V3 of FreePBX) check out #2600hz also.
