I signed up for a free account with ipkall just for fun but for some reason can't get it to work. I saw a YouTube video and followed his instructions but it just doesn't work. Can anybody shed some light? It seems like it would be easy but I must be missing something.

The cessation of IPKall service in May, 2016, was likely not the cause of @howie954's problems in November, 2015. :)

But yes, RIP IPKall. Used it for a veeeeery long time to forward calls to my PBXes.com account URI...

(OT: a handy replacement DID is TextFree/Pinger. Totally free, unlimited inbound calling local DID that works well with PIAF. I can start a new thread if anyone is interested. I read the scoop a while back on DSLReports).

I'm interested in how Textfree works with PIAF.

Just took a look at TextFree. You only get 10 free minutes without spending money or spending your day watching ads. RingPlus VoIP service with 500 free minutes a month (outbound and inbound) is a much better deal for a one-time deposit of $4.99 to cover overages. Plus you get Sprint's Internet backbone for VoIP. 400 minutes at TextFree is $9.99 for every 400 minutes. That works out to 2.5 cents per minute which is about double the price of most top tier VoIP providers.

Wasn't intending to compare it to R+. What it =is= good for, and why I mentioned it in the IPKall context, is a free =inbound= DID in your area code. No charge for inbound calls. That's how I use it. Free as in Beer!

(You have to hack a bit to discover your credentials, but it wasn't hard, and it is a rock-solid SIP DID with no need to URI flim-flammery a la IPKall)

That's good to know. Can you document how to find your credentials and then your SIP settings??
