Long story short...
I hav been running IncrediblePBX at home for years.
The last years it's been running on an ESXi server. Last version I installed was 2.0.6.4.4
Some week ago my hardware broke.
I reinstalled ESXi on new hardware
To be sure that the PIAF Backup and restore should work I installed 2.0.6.5.0
I run setup of Incredible PBX, TravelingMan and IncredibleFax
I restored the PIAF backup
All trunks, extensiona, ringgroups and so on was OK. But no phones went online and no trunks registered.
I made a new install of 2.0.6.4.4 to be sure that the restore worked, same problem
I installed one more 2.0.6.5.0 and started to register trunks manualy
First trunk was OK, and it registered, I created the IVR for our Motorcycle club and managed to have a phone conference.
I configured all extensions and all phones went online.
I configured 3 more trunks and configured inbound and outbound rules
All registered and work fine

I configured another 3 trunks, but when I press Apply to reload all extensions went offline and no trunk was registered any more.

Disableling the last three trunks and all extensions go online and the remaining 4 trunks registers as it should.
The trunk config is exacty the same for all my trunks exept for the DID, Username and Password

I have 30+ trunks from the same phone company, I have 17 extensions.
I did remove all pre configured trunks set up by IncrdiblePBX, but the FreePBX Status reports tell me that there is 8 trunks online, even though I only have 4 trunks enabled?

It doesen't matter which trunks I have enabled as long it's only 4, the will register. If I enable 5 they will time out.

Before my hardware broke, I had all 30+ registered without problem.
My trunk config is like this

Trunk name: Borlange 00

Outbound CallerID: "02xxxxxx00"<462xxxxxx00>

Trunk Name: 02xxxxxx00T

PEER Details:
username=462xxxxxx00
type=peer
secret=xxxxxxxxxxx
nat=yes
insecure=very
host=sip.phonzo.com
fromuser=02xxxxxx00
canreinvite=no
canredirect=no

allow=alaw&gsm&ulaw
USER Context: 02xxxxxx00U
USER Details:
username=462xxxxxx00
type=user
secret=xxxxxxxxxxx
qualify=no
fromuser=02xxxxxx00
context=from-trunk
canreinvite=no
Register String:
02xxxxxx00:xxxxxxxxx:[email protected]/02xxxxxx00
Where I have anonymized it with x
When I have 5 trunks or more the Asterix Log say

What was your previous setup?

Here is where I would start. Register 5 trunks and when they timeout I would turn off iptables from the firewall. From command line, "service iptables stop". To restart it "service iptables start".

That will rule out the firewall and travelin man.

Why so many trunks to the same provider?

Is your ESXI doing NAT or is it running as a bridged network?

Are you behind a router or do you have public IP's to your PIAF?

My ESXi is having separete networkcards and the IP is in my local 172.16.0.0/21 net
It is the same pfSense firewall that alowed 30+ trunks to my VIOP provider before the reinstall.

My VOIP provider give me private persons a DID for a one time fee of $5, then you pay per min uf you use it to call out
I use it mainly for experiments, and all exept one is only incoming. And the one for outgoing is on different plan.

My prior setup was IncrediblePBX on PIAF 2.0.6.4.4 Green if I remember correct, it was also 32 bit.

Disabeling IPTabels make no changes

I have a freakishly similar setup ironically. The only difference is mine is on its own server and I use a different SIP provider. I just tried registering 4 trunks to one of my providers with no probems.

I have no idea where your problem could be. If I were troubleshooting this problem myself I would:
1. Contact the provider and as if there is any reason I can't connect more than 4 trunks at once.
2. Try a different router just to see.
3. Try virtual machine from my desktop and see if I can registry more than 4 trunks.

I still question why you need more than 4 trunks. I know each provider is different but on all of my providers I can point my DID's to 1 peer from the providers control panel. Then I only need 1 trunk for all my DID's. Obviously your provider is different but have you asked if they can do this for you? I know it doesn't solve your problem but it probably simplifies your setup a lot.

I don't think that I'm so unlycky that the provider changed something during the week after my prior setup broke up to when I installed the new set up.
And I can't see any reason why they would block all trunks if more than 4 try to register from the same IP.
And there would be NO reason why all extensions go offline when the trunks stop registring.

And as I said it did work with 30+ trunks before it broke.

I will try to logg all traffic in my router to night and see if there is any traffic to from my provider, and if there is any difference with 4 and 5 trunks.

And I was about to run a virtual machine on my desktop to see, but the time dissapered :)
There are some other stuff to take care of around the house. After all I got the most important trunks up and running.

Now out for some garden duties, my wife say...

And there would be NO reason why all extensions go offline when the trunks stop registring.
Maybe intermittent internet connectivity - resulting in no DNS (known issue)

I run my own DNS server with an 8 day cash, I have tried to enter the hostname in the hosts file and also tried to use IP number in the registration string.
I have a 100 Mbit Fiber connection to Internet.

Thank you for all sugestions.
Back in the days when I run a Trixbox with an other VOIP Provider I remeber they blocked Asterisk servers, couse the SIP lines were only for SIP enebled phones. I don't know what "name" PIAF us to present it self. But I kno that back then it worked if I change the name to MyOwn PBX. But I don't remeber what file and what parameter. Don't thinkt it's the reason, but I'm running out of sugestions...

I might have found the solution, now I have 6 trunks registered.
If this is the solution it is DNS related. I also run one of the DNS servers on the same ESXi server
I hold my breath while restoring the backup after I made a Snapshot in ESXi---

Thanks for all help!!!

34 trunks registered and 17 extensions online.
Somethings got to be wrong with my DNS. I entered the VOIP providers server hostname in the hosts file (as I did before) and now it seams to work.

Thanks a lot you are GREAT!
