I have had a working PBX in a flash system for several months now. It has been working without issue and the computer has been restarted multiple times without issue in the past. All of a sudden this week, the phones ceased to work. I SSHed in and found that asterisk was not running. I am able to manually start asterisk with the amportal start command. I also checked /etc/rc.local file. A command to run amportal is present in that file. Other things in that file are run on startup (I also use the PBX in a flash server as a cups server, and cups starts up from /etc/rc.local). I can also run rc.local manually and it starts asterisk.

All other parts of the server seem operational...ie web server is running, freepbx in working but does not show asterisk up and running.

I finally just started a cron job to start amportal every 10 minutes. That appears to work. It is not the most elegant solution.

Anyone else having similar problems. Any better solutions?

Thanks.

I would be curious to see your system logs, including your asterisk log when you start up.

I agree, it would be interesting to see both the messages log and asterisk/full log.

Asterisk logs are empty, until asterisk is started. I will look for the message logs tonight.

Thanks

That doesn't make sense. Why would the asterisk logs be empty? I have restarted my machine a few times and the logs never clear out. When they reach a certain limit they just rotate.

I think you are getting confused with the CLI and the log files.

Make sure you are looking under: /var/log/asterisk

For the files: full, full.1, full.2, full.3, etc.
