Although the Asteridex database was handy for storing my address book for other reasons, I'd never been able to get it to initiate a call from the GUI like it is supposed to do. Today I traced the problem down. It turns out the default extension (701) is set up using PJSIP instead of SIP (and actually, I followed that protocol and used PJSIP for the other extensions I've created on this PBX as well. So, to make Asteridex work correctly, from one of the "Welcome to AsteriDex" tabbed pages, change the default "701" extension to "PJSIP/701" and click "save". (You can, of course use any valid extension in lieu of "701".) It won't be reflected on the page itself, but it will store a cookie with the new information in it. So now, when you click on an address book entry, Asteridex will work as designed, and that extension will get a call-back followed by the call being placed.

To make the selection permanent, go into the /var/www/html/asteridex4 directory and change line 25 of index.php to "PJSIP/701" (or your preferred extension). Then change line 11 of config.inc.php similarly.
