hello all,
so I'm not sure what to do next...I've got a site that has aastra 6757i phones that keep saying "no service" (it happens about once a hour or so for a few minutes or maybe few seconds then goes back to working normally). This just started happening few days ago, the sites been live for about a year now.

So far I've rebooted the piaf server, rebooted my PoE switch (linksys SRW224G4P).

I have aastraXML setup to provision the phones, and I've tried apply_prf -r a few extensions and rebooting the phones thinking maybe the cfgs got messed up but didnt help.

thanks for the quick reply!

Firmware version from the web interface of a phone (is there a way to find it from my the t*f*t*p servers 35i.st file?)
Code:
Firmware Information
Attribute	Value
Firmware Version	2.6.0.1007
Firmware Release Code	SIP
Boot Version	2.4.0.80
Date/Time	Jul 6 2010 12:00:33

I'm checking my ntp server now...

I had an issue like this, it was an DNS issue.

I was using OpenDNS, switch to my ISP DNS and the problem resolved.

ntp

so I ran ntpq from the piaf server here are my outputs:

tested ntp w/ ntpq -p pool.ntp.org (make sure i'm doing it right)
Code:
root@whou:~ $ ntpq -p pool.ntp.org
     remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================
+nsgcloud2.netse 64.113.32.5      2 u  329  512  377   50.726    0.702   0.036
 lasvegas-nv-dat .INIT.          16 u    -  512    0    0.000    0.000   0.000

tested the local server

ntp -p 127.0.0.1 & ps aux|grep ntp
Code:
root@whou:~ $ ps aux|grep ntp
ntp       2644  0.0  0.2   4496  4496 ?        SLs  Jan13   0:00 ntpd -u ntp:ntp -p /var/run/ntpd.pid -g

root@whou:~ $ ntpq -p 127.0.0.1
     remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==============================================================================

my /etc/dhcpd.conf (so the phone are pointing at my piaf server for NTP)
Code:
root@whou:~ $ cat /etc/dhcpd.conf
ddns-update-style interim;
ignore client-updates;

subnet 192.168.53.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
  option routers                  192.168.53.1;
  option subnet-mask              255.255.255.0;
  option nis-domain               "whou.pbx";
  option domain-name              "whou.pbx";
  option domain-name-servers      66.180.96.12;
  option time-offset              -21600; # CST
  option ntp-servers              192.168.53.2;
  option t*f*t*p-server-name         "192.168.53.2";

  range dynamic-bootp 192.168.53.128 192.168.53.200;
  default-lease-time 43200;
  max-lease-time 86400;
}

so the piaf server is serving ntp correctly huh?
maybe I should disable ntp on the phones?

okay so i've updated to firmware to 2.6.0.2019...

Also I noticed a DNS issue in my resolve.conf (my first dns server was not accessible any longer)
BUT my dhcpd.conf it was giving my phones a valid dns server.

dad311 question: you said you had a dns issue was it the dns supplied to your phones or on your server? (cause i had a dns issue w/ in my resolv.conf that i just fixed was yours the same?)

I'll report back when I hear from the client next.

I had my router setup to use Open DNS. The router was also my dhcp server.
