this was odd. she's all working now. i set up a reservation in my dhcp server for piaf. thanks darmok for the ip connect info and pointing me towards dns. im going to leave this like this for now, since i am leaving tomorrow.

i ran netconfig, set it to dhcp, rebooted and the phones & trunks register.

I notice the IP Connect service is stopped. is this usually the case? i hadn't noticed this before.

the only changes were some FreePBX updates last week. I do see time outs for my trunks in the logs. Im thinking DNS is pooched now too...

yeah thats my issue, very few if any reviews of it, just lots of links to stores that sell them. I did see that a few folx here have used them in the past. Im open to other options in the SMB market. If all else fails I will just go with a 3com product.

doc, keep it simple. a managed switch is overkill for you needs (i think). save the bucks on an un-managed one and spend it on a beefy UPS for your closet to keep your server and phones online during power bumps.

The Mitel system we have at work alerts the console(s) which ext called 911. I assume most modern phone systems have this feature built in.

Do you have anything in the DID field for your cell route?

Make sure the DTMF setting on the 286 is set to "via RTP (RFC2833)". I've had the best luck with it set this way. It works with the PiaF VM and external IVR's.
