Let's get real though - the phone number as we know it is on it's way out anyway, though it will be a while still before it's gone (probably in my lifetime I would guess). If we could ever get a reliable and easy to use e164 like solution that would route calls automatically to SIP connections when dialing a POTS number that was SIP connected, it would die even faster . . .

So looks like I can still use GV in some limited form. I hope someone will post a detailed how-to describe the "old-approach". Things have been changed since Gtalk come into picture. For example, Sipgate has stopped to exist, at least in the sense of DID, and it looks like callcentric became the darling of DIDs. I am also wondering how Asterisk11 is going to work the old way.
