I don't believe you can just get basic PIAF on the Pi. As I understand it, it's a pre-baked image that is set with everything ready to roll.Just curious, what versions of PiaF can be installed on a Pi? If you just want basic PiaF and NOT the Incredible PBX add-ons, is there an easy way to get that?
Also, has anyone thought about putting PiaF on a BeagleBone Black? These folks put their Asterisk/FreePBX build on it for the reasons mentioned here.
At the moment I ask just to satisfy my curiosity, since I don't have a Raspberry Pi or a BeagleBone Black yet.
There isn't really 'PBX in a Flash' for RasPi. It's just called Incredible PBX or Incredible Pi. It is essentially the base PIAF, but slimmed down further.Just curious, what versions of PiaF can be installed on a Pi? Question though: Why would you NOT want IPBX11 features? There are some amazing things it is capable of.
There are several I can think of... Conference bridge, Caller ID Superfecta, enhanced security with TM3, etc. Even on a Pi for a simple setup, these are very useful to many situations. What would you consider an essential feature from Incredible that's not available in basic PBX in a Flash? Yes, there are a lot of extras there but if you don't need any of them, why add them to a system that already has low resources?
On the systems I have set up, I have found that all the users really want to do is make and receive phone calls. If I add any cool features, it's usually stuff that only I wind up using. Even if I e-mail them and say that this new feature has been added, most of the time nobody will even try it. Of all the feature codes available in FreePBX, the only ones that any of my users ever use are the ones to listen to their voicemail and the one to blacklist spam callers - and most of the time they will instead call me and ask me to add a number to the blacklist, which I don't mind because then I can Google it to make sure it's really an appropriate number to add to the blacklist. I'm happy that all that cool stuff is available, but there are some situations where you simply don't need it.
I guess I'm not the person to ask about bloat in the dialplan, but I'm doubtful it's really anything to be concerned about. It was just a question as to what is available for the Raspberry Pi. It is nice to know that the apps don't consume resources but I wonder if they add any unnecessary bloat to the dialplan? I don't want to debate what is or isn't essential because obviously everyone will have a different opinion on that. And if I did offer my thoughts, someone would surely disagree, and I just don't feel like trying to explain why I would make certain choices that others might not make.
Besides, I thought that the conference bridge was part of Asterisk and FreePBX, and that Caller ID Superfecta is simply a FreePBX module that can be added to any basic PiaF installation, or for that matter any FreePBX-based distribution, though that might involve a bit of additional tweaking.
