We've done a 10-person conference call with no problems.

Just curious, what versions of PiaF can be installed on a Pi? If you just want basic PiaF and NOT the Incredible PBX add-ons, is there an easy way to get that?

Also, has anyone thought about putting PiaF on a BeagleBone Black? These folks put their Asterisk/FreePBX build on it for the reasons mentioned here.

At the moment I ask just to satisfy my curiosity, since I don't have a Raspberry Pi or a BeagleBone Black yet.

I don't believe you can just get basic PIAF on the Pi. As I understand it, it's a pre-baked image that is set with everything ready to roll.

Question though: Why would you NOT want IPBX11 features? There are some amazing things it is capable of.

As far as I know, PIAF has not been ported to the new bone board.

There isn't really 'PBX in a Flash' for RasPi. It's just called Incredible PBX or Incredible Pi. It is essentially the base PIAF, but slimmed down further.

What would you consider an essential feature from Incredible that's not available in basic PBX in a Flash? Yes, there are a lot of extras there but if you don't need any of them, why add them to a system that already has low resources?

On the systems I have set up, I have found that all the users really want to do is make and receive phone calls. If I add any cool features, it's usually stuff that only I wind up using. Even if I e-mail them and say that this new feature has been added, most of the time nobody will even try it. Of all the feature codes available in FreePBX, the only ones that any of my users ever use are the ones to listen to their voicemail and the one to blacklist spam callers - and most of the time they will instead call me and ask me to add a number to the blacklist, which I don't mind because then I can Google it to make sure it's really an appropriate number to add to the blacklist. I'm happy that all that cool stuff is available, but there are some situations where you simply don't need it.

The "essential" feature for me is that Ward (and team), spent probably hours building the image for the Pi on the Pi. Having compiled even small apps that I created takes DDDAAAYYYYYSSSSS (exaggerating a little for emphasis).

The common misconception is that these apps consume resources. Other than a little space on your SD card, if you don't use an application it takes no resources.

There are several I can think of... Conference bridge, Caller ID Superfecta, enhanced security with TM3, etc. Even on a Pi for a simple setup, these are very useful to many situations.

It was just a question as to what is available for the Raspberry Pi. It is nice to know that the apps don't consume resources but I wonder if they add any unnecessary bloat to the dialplan? I don't want to debate what is or isn't essential because obviously everyone will have a different opinion on that. And if I did offer my thoughts, someone would surely disagree, and I just don't feel like trying to explain why I would make certain choices that others might not make.

Besides, I thought that the conference bridge was part of Asterisk and FreePBX, and that Caller ID Superfecta is simply a FreePBX module that can be added to any basic PiaF installation, or for that matter any FreePBX-based distribution, though that might involve a bit of additional tweaking.

I guess I'm not the person to ask about bloat in the dialplan, but I'm doubtful it's really anything to be concerned about.

I suppose you could always roll your own PIAF on the Pi, it just takes sooooo long to compile everything and create the image for the Pi that it's probably not worth it to strip the feature set down.

The beauty of open source is you are always free to roll your own. I'd set aside more than a couple hours if you decide to try it.

Just wanted to post a quick thanks to Ward and crew for the RasPi PIAF work.

My ancient (PIAF 1.7.5.5 Gold) box stopped working middle of the day today. Fortunately VOIPms supports failover, so I didn't miss any calls.

Also fortunately, I had a RasPi lying around that I was able to minimally configure so I could get my system up and running (limping?) while I figure out what went wrong. I'm running a backup of the main drive now (pulled from the system), so I'm guessing it's the motherboard that took a dump.

The only thing I had to do was turn off access for external extensions (bummer, but small price to get running again), per the instruction on Nerd Vittles to not forward any ports to a Pi system.

Why in the world would you buy that?
Buy a Raspberry Pi plain and it's accessories then load the software yourself on it... Why pay a remote HK guy to do it and pay a premium for it?

Using my Pi and love it. As for lazy ... I'm sorry you are beyond that. Put an SD card in your computer, click Open on the application w32image something - point to the img of IncrediblePi, wait the 10 mins and you are good to go. Heck you want to give me $75, I'll do it for you.

Seriously anyway, what are the chances for this all included to be the only install you'll do?
Once you have it, you'll have to reinstall it one day, you'll be on your own. Better to be on your own from the start.

While you would wait for this shipment to arrive, you could read the instructions a 100 times. You'll be a pony god by then...

I would also recommend that you start with a VM or a physical machine. I have to assume by that being lazy, you mean that you don't have a lot of time for this project and just want it to work. Ward's work fit that a lot.
Download a ready made vm or load the iso on a machine and be done with it once it works. The Pi could represent more time involvement on your part if you're less familiar with it. You'll have to move all those recordings around and etc.

When you have more time, then get a Pi and set it up during your free time.
With a VM you can clone it, snapshot it, have many at the same time... Possible with a Pi but a bit more complex to set up.
