PS: If you do not have a DHCP server in that segment then you can use something like TFTPD32 on your Laptop with a cross over cable to set the initial address, then set the static and move the LAN 1 connection to the Switch -

So just hook Lan 1 into my switch?

YES --

You might also want to get a copy of the Quick config guide --

When configuring using Quick config, only LAN interface 1 will be configured.
Get an IP address
If a DHCP server is available, by default, the Vega will automatically pick up an IP address from
that server. If you know the IP address served to the Vega, skip this section and move on to “Web
browser connection and Summary page” on page 6.
If a DHCP server is being used to provide IP addresses but you do not know the IP address served
to the Vega, then either:
- Perform an IP ping and look at the ARP cache
- Use a serial connection to let the Vega tell you its IP address
Use IP ping and Arp cache
Take a note of the MAC address of your Vega (this is printed on the rear of the Vega above
the LAN interface(s) – The LAN 1 MAC address is the same value as the serial number of
the Vega and is always even. The LAN 2 MAC address – if there is a LAN 2 – is LAN 1 MAC
address plus 1, and so is always odd).
Connect your PC to the same subnet as the Vega and then ping all the IP addresses in the
local subnet – either by manually typing the ping commads, or by using a tool like ‘IPSCAN’
(www.angryziber.com/ipscan/)
From the PC command prompt type ‘arp –a’ and look for the MAC address of your Vega in
the Physical address column. The IP address of your Vega is in

I have DHCP enabled on Untangle, but the Vega 50 which is hooked to my Unmanaged Switch is not resolving the IP that I'm giving it in the DHCP settings. The Lan 1 light keeps blinking, I also do not have a serial console cable. >.>

Again,

I usually use a a portable DHCP an a cross over, check the log to ensure it got the address I wanted it to and then use my browser to set the Static IP configuration on LAN 1.

I am not sure I understand why yours is not behaving - Console is just a serial port --

Use a serial connection
Use a 9 way D type to RJ45 serial cable (available as an accessory from your Vega gateway reseller).
Configure a terminal emulator program (such as Microsoft’s HyperTerminal) for:
• Speed = 115200 baud
• Data bits = 8
• Parity = none
• Stop bits = 1
• Flow Control = none
Press <Enter> to get the Username: prompt

ftp://ftp.sangoma.com/vega/docs/Quick config_05.pdf

Google can find the Pin out if you need it for the Serial to RJ-45 --

I may have to look for an alternative cable as none of my current PCs have serial ports anymore. >.>
I'll try using the crossover cable as you suggested, but I'll have to crimp one as I don't have any pre-made.

My laptop was made in Feb of 2013 so it's not that old, though I put windows 7 on the thing cause I hate Windows 8.
I tried connecting the laptop and the gateway to an old 10/100 5-port switch with no dhcp to try and see if it would take, but it didn't.
I'm going to make a crossover cable in a few minutes as I just dug my crimper out, granted i have excess of cat 6, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if I use cat 5 or 6 just to make a crossover cable.
Anyways I'll look into that serial port as I don't have any older computers that have working serial ports. -_-

GOOD NEWS!

I was able to access the device and it wasn't that I needed a crossover cable or that it was broken. The jerk I bought it from had the device setup to static instead of dhcp enabled. So no matter what device I plugged it into, it would not get an ip served by the dhcp server in Untangle.

I went and dug a very old netgear 10/100 router out that I had lying around and plugged the Vega 50 and my Laptop into it, did an IP Scan and voila access to the Vega 50. The worst part was that the last owner did not tell me what the password for the device was set, luckily I ended up guessing the password and you can believe I changed the sucker as fast as I could.

Now on to the configurations! :D

Ok Sorry for the double posting, but I followed the Elastix guide and have been able to get outgoing calls working somewhat. But they don't stay active long enough to leave a voicemail or carry a conversation it cuts out exactly after 23 seconds.

When you do a RTP debug, do you see traffic?

Could you post the asterisk logs at the end of the 23 sec. call?

Do you hear anything when the caller picks up?

Update ===

My install is in a Hotel, and the Analog extensions are coming from their in-house PBX (FXS) to Vega (FXO) -- We now believe that the PBX is doing Line (polarity) Reversal and are trying to find out if this can be disabled and if the PBX can support just loop current on these four extensions ?

nightstryke - How are you doing ?

Well I really could have used rjaiswal's configuration files as I think there's something wrong with my setup. Short of a factory reset, not sure I've looked in the settings and configs but for the life of me I cannot figure out what the issue is.

Also I followed the tutorial to the letter but SIP Registrations show 0 out of 8 users instead of 1 out of 8.
FXO shows that 1 of 8 in service.

I'll probably get flamed, but what the heck.... You can pick up a Grandstream GXW4108 for less that $250, and that will handle 8 lines. Caveats - get the latest firmware on it; Grandstream's documentation sucks, and their support phone not only takes forever to pickup, but sounds awful (hmmmm, and they make telephony products?)

That said, once the support guy walked me through it, it was easy breezy. That said, if you go down that road PM me, and I guess I should probably write a tutorial.
