Many of your have probably already heard, but Google announced their Android Wear platform at their annnual I/O conference in June. Honestly looking at they watches available now and soon to come (like the Moto 360) I'm actually excited about smart watches for the first time ever. I think Google is very smart to design and implement a single user interface that all devices using the Android Wear platform will have to conform to. It will keep the devices from being so segmented. I honestly thing that Google/Android could compete with an iWatch now. Perhaps not in shear numbers (because Apple will instantly sell a ton of these to all the Apple fanatics out there), but certainly on performance and usability.

Here is a quick review of the platform for those that may not have heard about it yet. http://www.techradar.com/news/portable-devices/google-android-wear-what-you-need-to-know-1235025

I actually still kind of like this one. I love watches with classic faces and hands and since my phone is almost always within reach its nice to know when a real alert is coming in and that isn't a phantom vibration in my pocket. I don't really need a phone replacement on my wrist.... just yet anyway.

I'm not so keen on smartwatches.
Just don't see a huge need.
I already carry the smartphone and am trying to use it less, not more.

Actually the Pebble with Pebble Cards, in a nerdy sort of way, is pretty good now. You get Weather, Email, Text, and Phone alerts which is all most folks want.

Now if someone would make an Android Wear device that used the black ink screen like the Pebble, I would be all over that!

I really like the functionality that the Android Wear devices have (especially the integration with Google Now), but the screens are battery hogs and unusable outside in the sun. The black ink screen of the Pebble sips battery power and is extremely easy to read in the sun.

Just wait for the nuclear version ... no changing the battery for 200 years

Best Buy had two this morning. Now they have one. The Moto 360 actually looks pretty good. Reports are that the battery life is pretty awful (dies about 4 p.m. daily according to reviewers).

And, yes, you can talk to this one just like Dick Tracy so long as your first words are "OK, Google."

We'll see what Apple and LG deliver before we pick a keeper...

Now we're getting somewhere! That actually looks like a normal watch. Not quite as classy looking as my Casio still, but it's definitely heading in the right direction.

I think the 360 looks strange but it really is a personal preference thing. I had DTH LG G for a week and didn't like the over all style. I switched to the gear live which I think looks, and feels fantastic.

Moto 360 is a little strange. It's round... like a watch. So far, so good. 7 hours with almost constant alerts and it still has 58% of the battery left. The last update apparently fixed the short battery life problem. I'm usually not up much longer than that. :santa:

I am told I should get 2 days or so out of mine but haven't tried. I was comfortably doing FreePBX world (about 16 hours off the charger) with the screen set to "always on" I have recently discovered I can turn that off My watch has been off the charger since 9 this morning (7pm now) with heavy use and I am at 81%
