Still getting to grips with my config and as part of doing that I've been using the CLI by typing asterisk -rvvvvvvvv and then looking at the messages that get displayed when I try to place or receive a call.

I was expecting this info would also be written to a log file but I can't seem to make it happen. From what I've read it would go to /var/log/asterisk/full but this file is empty so I am guesssing it's not enabled on my system.

I can't seem to work out how to enable this from the freepbx web pages.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks for the link but the first thing it mentions is to edit logger.conf which I don't even have, at least not on /etc/asterisk.
I was thinking because this is freepbx/PIAF, all the setup has to be done through the web portal so the config files don't get overwritten when the sytem is restarted but I couldn't see a relevant menu area.
This install I have is the incredible Pi one.

From logger show channels I just get an empty list:
Channel Type Status Configuration
------- ---- ------ -------------

Status shows:
Incredible PBX 3.11.12 for Raspberry Pi B

Asterisk: UP Apache: UP MySQL: UP
EximSMTP: UP IPtables: UP SSH: UP
LAN Eth0: UP WLan0: DN SAMBA: DN

RAM: 223496 54.07°C/129.32°F Disk: 11G

Ast 11.11.0 FreePBX 2.11.0.30

In the /etc/asterisk directory there is no logger.conf file. There are the following files:
logger_general_additional.conf logger_logfiles_additional.conf
logger_general_custom.conf logger_logfiles_custom.conf

In the /var/www/html/admin/modules/core directory there is no logger directory
In /var/www/html/admin/modules/core/etc there is no logger.conf file

I installed from the http://nerdvittles.com/?p=10151 article link to http://sourceforge.net/projects/pbxinaflash/files/IncrediblePi-1.x-Debian-6/

doing cat on the /etc/asterisk.log* files gives:
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------;
; Do NOT edit this file as it is auto-generated by FreePBX. All modifications to ;
; this file must be done via the web gui. There are alternative files to make ;
; custom modifications, details at: http://freepbx.org/configuration_files ;

full => error
fail2ban => notice
So I am thinking that in the Pi build, logging has been missed out and that actually there should be a logger.conf file that includes the 4 other files and that then it would work ?

Do you have /usr/src/asterisk/configs/logger.conf.sample in your build? You could move that to /etc/asterisk and see how it goes. I never played with the Pi version so I'm not much help beyond that.
