Hi
For those who are installing PBX systems for a living and setting up trunks for customers, you might consider setting up A2Billing on a public server, and passing calls through it and billing the customer yourself.
Clearly this option is not for everyone, but there are some advantages:
1. You only have to set the trunks up once on A2billing, theoretically, you should not have to touch them again.
2. You can set up failover providers, and quickly re-route should a carrier have an overall problem or problem to an individual destination.
3. It's easier to diagnose problems when you can see what's happening at each end of the link.
4. Customers are more "sticky" when you own their telephone numbers.
5. You expect to make a profit on DID resale and VoIP termination.
6. You get better rates the more minutes that you do.
A2Billing is free and open source, so you can install it yourself with a basic knowledge of Asterisk and LAMP. Alternatively we can provide installation, training and support, see our website for costs.
If this is of interest, there is no cost to dropping us an email or giving us a ring and discussing it through with us.
