I'm re-setting up my RasPi incrediblepi server, so I am yet again installing postfix in order to forward voicemail via email and to send myself a text whenever a vm is left in my box)
Getting it to work with google smtp is... challenging.
I found a tutorial that will get you most of the way there at http://bogdanioanliviu.no-ip.org/install-postfix-gmail-account-on-raspberry-pi/
My notes, from just having done this
"Next will be prompted to introduce the relay server we will use"
this doesn't happen; don't worry, just continue
"[email protected]" means the gmail (or gapps) address you want email to be from (an account you have the password for)
In /etc/aliases, he suggests you set postmaster to user. it's already there as root; I left it and it seems fine - I think he just wanted to make sure postmaster was listed.
"mail-s"this will appear in subject " [email protected]"
[email protected] is where you want email sent - doesn't have to be gmail
for non-linux folks (yeah, that's me all-be-it less and less) you terminate an email body with ctl-D.
That's it. now you can go to FreePBX admin, go to each line you want voicemail forwarded via email and put addresses in.
To send a text/SMS that a voicemail has arrived just put the phone number and network provider sms email gateway in the pager field. I found a pretty comprehensive list of gateways at http://martinfitzpatrick.name/list-of-email-to-sms-gateways/
