I'm looking to set up a new pbx for our office as our current system and backup are quite old. We do have some custom dial plans and with the transition from Asterisk 1.4 to 1.8 I recall having to rework dial plan syntax and some AMI commands. At the time people were quite upset with what seemed like needless changes required to get our dial plans working again.

Going from Asterisk 1.8 to pbxiaf green (asterisk 11) or black (asterisk 12) do we see compatibility issues? Not looking for exact changes or help with code, just trying to get a sense of the big picture after having looked through the threads here, searching, and recent nerd vittle articles.
thank you
David

Yes, there are numerous changes, especially moving to Asterisk 12.

The Asterisk wiki is useful in tracking these:

https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/New+in+10#Newin10-AsteriskManagerInterface

https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/New+in+11 and compatibility issues with upgrading: https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Upgrading+to+Asterisk+11

And https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/New+in+12 with the note:
major changes were made to most of the interfaces in Asterisk. This includes not only AMI, but also CDRs and CEL.
