My question is how and when should i update my pbx ?

the reason i ask if i have recently built a new pbx on a diffrent machine so i can migrate over to it but i have noticed some fixes and new modules which were not in my old one?

the old PBX is up to date so i would have though the new parts would have been installed?

please can you clarify this?

the new module is the endpoint manager
and also the webpage issue in firefox with the overlapping of icons, these are the two i have noticed but their could be lots more i cannot see?

also should i do the free pbx update to 2.9 ?

Thanks

Dan

I wouldn't be concerned about installing Endpoint Manager in the old system before migrating over. It is a newly improved functionality that will add to your capabilities but is not required to support old functions.

Update-programs and update-fixes is generally considered as the best way to keep your PBXIAF system up to date and the generally accepted frequency is to do it often.

I have not heard that freepbx 2.9 is generally considered a good idea to upgrade into. Last I heard it is generally considered by the community as experimental.

I hope this helps.

neither of which will do anything about freepbx or the menu issue.

As said many times in many threads

update-programs = only updates PBX in a Flash created programs that come with the base install of PBX in a Flash. It has nothing to do with Asterisk/freepbx/etc

update-fixes = only updates critical fixes required to keep your system running or to fix errors caused by one of the many package developers who don't understand the complex ecosystem that is PIAF

update-source = upgrades Asterisk only. Nothing to do with freepbx.

You want to upgrade Freepbx to something newer than what is shipped with PIAF then use FPBX's built in upgrade mechanism. That being said we still ship PIAF with Freepbx 2.8. nuff said.

The menu problem is still a work in progress which is why it has not been shipped out via update-fixes YET.

why is it that if I try to do update-programs it tells me the mirrors are down and no connection can be made, even if I do run update-fixes the same thing happens?

Wow talk about an old revived thread! 2011 no less!!!

bet you are running piaf 2x. Just checked PIAF3x all colors/32-64 bit and they all have access. That code has not been touched in more than a year and will not be updated. It has been archived to glass and put away.

PIAF3 is the current version which is nearing EOL. Once it does no further work will occur on the PIAF3X codebase and all development efforts will be directed to PIAF4X

I have the same problem with an old 2x PIAF, what do you mean by "checked PIAF3x all colors/32-64 bit"?

Thanks

when we get complaints (infrequent) in order to verify that all versions of PIAF3x are working the lab installs from scratch all colors (think asterisk versions whatever is current in our repo) and both 32 and 64 bit. This equates to a lot of installs all of them worked flawlessly using the same installs that are publicly available.

There is no official upgrade path in PIAF between Asterisk Family Versions. Each Family Version of Asterisk (e.g. 1.8, 11, 12, 13 ...) are customized for that particular family. Some people have done it by hand (download the source compile by hand fix all the bugs by hand) and had great success or great failure. The PIAF dev teams philosophy is if it is working why muddle with it. I suppose if we were a commercial enterprise and actually got paid we could develop something. Unfortunately we only have so much time to volunteer (I speak fro the whole team) so we focus on what we have time to do. I currently run asterisk 1.8.x as my personal pbx and have NO plans to upgrade to something newer as it does what it is supposed to flawlessly. We don have an upgrade path within Asterisk Families called update-source. this allow you to keep your PIAF install current within the Asterisk Family.

Feel free to give it a try and document what you do we are happy to host a solution if one becomes available

Is there a way to uninstall pbx in a flash remotely and then install it remotely? I am guessing that running the script again after de uninstall will do the job but I dont know how to uninstall remotely and if that is possible, any help would be greatly apprecciated, I need to do this because I am being hacked.

Nope there is not. If you are being hacked a scrub and reinstall is really the only way to do things.

Sorry
