I'm working on moving a phone system from a Toshiba PBX to PIAF. They use an overhead paging system that uses an amp that the PBX connects to. In the past I've used a CyberData interface but have been looking at the Snom PA1 (for budget reasons). Has anyone tried the Snom PA1? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

How specifically does the interface work between the existing PBX and the amp? Is it audio + relay closure, just audio, FXS, FXO, something else?

Well the old Toshiba has a RCA line out for paging. That is feed into an amp that pushes it over the loudspeakers.

If it's just RCA out, then the amp must be doing its own voice detection - that is, if you are balancing paging vs another voice. If it's strictly paging and it's always on then the Snom PA1 should be fine for you.

I have installed 3 Snom PA1 on different systems and they work great, you will need a matching transformer ( 600 ohm to 600 ohm) between the PA1 and the 70 volt amp.

How do you add the SNOM PA1 into PIAF? I looked at the OSS endpoint manager (the fee one) and I can see SNOM, but no devices are listed so I can add them. As a result. it appears I can't register it. Any tips would be great. FYI, I using this unit to replace a Polycom 321 that they hacked into and soldered wires across the speaker. I can't stand that kind of kludgy work. The bigger picture is this is a new PIAF that replaced an old one, and they had it working, but I can't seem to make the 321 auto-answer, so instead of spending hundreds in time, I'm going for a proper solution.
