Here's what we think the next generation GUI for Asterisk should look & feel like. Try it out for yourself.

To translate what you're about to see in RingRoost's video featuring their drag-and-drop PBX Builder interface:

1. Inbound Trunk created by assigning DID from pull-down list.
2. Extension created with SIP credentials as Ext. 1.
3. Inbound Route created to Answer Calls for the new DID.
4. TTS-generated IVR created to process incoming calls to that inbound route. (male or female voice)
5. Incoming sales calls routed to two external phone numbers.
6. Other calls routed elsewhere
7. Second IVR created to process incoming calls.
8. Option 1 - sends SMS message
9. Option 2 - sends calls to various numbers based upon IF-logic on incoming CallerID number

TOTAL SETUP TIME: 3 minutes!

At first glance I see similarities to the Anveo call-flow stuff...

tycho Agreed. Anybody know what development tools were used to build the GUI??

Slick... but it seems way slower and cumbersome than using FreePBX Administration...

Huckda: I assume you're talking about RingRoost, and I agree. The design flaw they made is running the PBX off the GUI code directly instead of using the GUI as a code generator for Asterisk. FreePBX took a different approach. From the Asterisk vantage point, FreePBX is basically a code generator. When it comes time to run your PBX, you really don't need FreePBX at all. If you don't believe it, get things set up with FreePBX the way you want it and then shut down Apache (which shuts down the FreePBX GUI obviously). Calls will still be handled, managed, and documented just as if FreePBX was never there. So... the trick is to use the front end GUI as a code generator for Asterisk. And then let Asterisk do the heavy lifting when it comes to call management and processing.

Our little development project takes this a step further. We're actually planning to build a GUI that serves as a code generator for FreePBX so that you don't lose any of the existing functionality of FreePBX while simplifying the steps that many of us use to quickly deploy systems for end-users or to let end-users do it themselves.

The video from synack shows exactly how it could be done. Good find, synack! Reseller U.S. pricing is pretty reasonable ($3 a month for a DID with free incoming calls and 3¢ a minute for outbound calls), and there's a $19/month unlimited U.S./Canada or $29/month unlimited International calling plan. Compare that to "unlimited trunk" offerings, and you can appreciate why the Cloud-based market is taking off. But there's always a gotcha or two (this is from the pay-by-the-minute provider's T&C)...

The Customer is prohibited from using the Service for callback calls, auto-dialing, continuous or extensive call forwarding, telemarketing (including, without limitation, charitable or political solicitation or polling), fax or voicemail broadcasting or fax or voicemail blasting purposes.

Interesting idea.

If Freepbx was written in a way that was bi-directional you could just make changes directly to Asterisk files, database or Freepbx files and Freepbx would reflect them.

So moving forward you are:

Not the unaltered original but had the segment I wanted.
