Anybody know of an issue with using PBXiaf's voicemail-to-email feature on RentPBX?

I use it on numerous PBXiaf boxes elsewhere, but this is my first shot with them. And of course my support question regarding it hasn't been answered.

I know the system IS sending emails (I've run backups and it's sent me alerts on them), but it's not sending me voicemails when I have created them.

Is there something in PBXiaf that I need to trigger, in order to start this (aside from flipping the switches in each particular extension)?

Check the mail log (should be /var/log/maillog) and see whether there are records of the outgoing voicemail messages there. If there are, it is likely that something is blocking the message along the way (spam filter), but not necessarily RentPBX. Generally recommended here is to use an authenticated e-mail service, such as relaying through a GMail account or even SendGrid, rather than sending out directly from your PBX's sendmail service.

I'm a bit lost as to how rentpbx sends email -and their support responses are less helpful than an IRS official answering a senate committee, if you get my drift....
If they'd just note HOW it is sending (direct from their mail relay, based on the account email address, or does it require me to set up an SMTP account) - it'd make a world of difference....

Thx...

this is the /var/log/messages I’m seeing:

Aug 26 08:12:02 pbx1 asterisk[1500]: rc_avpair_new: unknown attribute 1490026597
Aug 26 08:12:02 pbx1 asterisk[1500]: rc_avpair_new: unknown attribute 1490026597
Aug 26 08:12:02 pbx1 asterisk[1500]: rc_avpair_new: unknown attribute 1490026597

/var/log/maillog appears to me that it **SEEMS** to be working (although I'm just guessing)

EDIT:

Here's the latest from it..

Aug 26 08:02:44 pbx1 sendmail[1843]: s7QF2hMR001843: to=[email protected], ctladdr=[email protected] (0/0), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=relay, pri=30304, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (s7QF2hH2001850 Message accepted for delivery)
Aug 26 08:02:45 pbx1 sendmail[1852]: s7QF2hH2001850: to=<[email protected]>, delay=00:00:02, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=esmtp, pri=120519, relay=smtp.secureserver.net. [68.178.213.37], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (jT2k1o02H0tHcWx01 - jT2k1o02H0tHcWx01T2k04 mail accepted for delivery)
Aug 26 09:01:24 pbx1 sendmail[3123]: s7QG1NOo003123: from=[email protected], size=304, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, relay=root@localhost
Aug 26 09:01:24 pbx1 sendmail[3130]: s7QG1ObE003130: from=<[email protected]>, size=519, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=pbx1server.domain.com [127.0.0.1]

(emails & server/domains have been edited by me)

BUT,

see this: relay=smtp.secureserver.net

it should be relay=smtpout.secureserver.net
(that's the correct OUTBOUND SMTP for the domain account..

where would that be edited??

We are not relaying your mail. Your mail directly goes to the destination smtp server.

If you use dig, you can see the following

dig mx yourdomainxsgsfd.com (note replace yourdomainxsgsfd.com with your destination email domain name)

; <<>> DiG 9.3.6-P1-RedHat-9.3.6-4.P1.el5_4.2 <<>> mx yourdomainxsgsfd.com
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 242
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 2, ADDITIONAL: 5

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;yourdomainxsgsfd.com. IN MX

;; ANSWER SECTION:
yourdomainxsgsfd.com. 3600 IN MX 0 smtp.secureserver.net.
yourdomainxsgsfd.com. 3600 IN MX 10 mailstore1.secureserver.net.

the yourdomainxsgsfd.com email is hosted/handled by smtp.secureserver.net.

Most likely, your email may be rejected by smtp.secureserver.net due to lack of SPF/DKIM record. Perhaps is just simple reverse ip look up issue. We are by no mean an expert on this area as I have mention in our ticket. We recommend that your relay your email using gmail for free. We personally relay our email with mailjet.com. I also metion that those service cost from free to some nominal fee.

Please also see answer from billsimon. It is the correct solution in the first place.

Please update your ticket if you need more help.

thx for the note - sorry if I'm unclear what's happening.

Prior to this, I have always set up piaf boxes behind a firewall, and have allowed the box to send email directly (rather than using a relay elsewhere).. In fact, I've got 7 or 8 working that way right now, and have never experienced an issue of the emails not being delivered.

I didn't mean to stomp on toes by posting these questions here - just not understanding where the problem is at, and not needing to spend hours chasing what (seems to me) should be a rather simple process.

So, having jumped for Schmooze's FreePBX-CM-SysAdmin Pro 25 Year License ($25), it would appear that my issues were NOT rentpbx, NOR secureserver... but Postfix?

i set it up with gmail (and tested to a secureserver.net-based address)

Aug 26 11:51:12 pbx1 sendmail[10085]: s7QIpB7m010085: to="recordings" <mytestemailaddy@blahcom>, ctladdr=asterisk (498/497), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=relay, pri=44243, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (s7QIpBrF010086 Message accepted for delivery)
Aug 26 11:51:12 pbx1 sendmail[10088]: s7QIpBrF010086: to=<mytestemailaddy@blahcom>, ctladdr=<[email protected]> (498/497), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=134375, relay=smtp.secureserver.net. [72.167.238.29], dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service unavailable

Aug 26 14:24:30 pbx1 postfix/postfix-script[17020]: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running

Am I entirely missing something here?

I've dug thru the numerous online installation tutorials on installing postfix. It seems that postfix IS installed, just not running.. after this showed up, did an "amportal restart", , tried to install again, but no difference...

PBX in a Flash and Incredible PBX both use SendMail. Always have! The only exception is Incredible PBX on the Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone Black platforms.

yes, and I followed your web tutorial to remove and install postfix..

I forced a restart, but even with the schmooze app installed, it's still showing an error:

Aug 26 17:08:08 pbx1 postfix/smtp[3686]: BD9B0137B8D: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=21, delays=0.03/0.04/21/0, dsn=4.4.3, status=deferred (Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=smtpout.secureserver.net type=MX: Host not found, try again)

strange enough - smtpout.secureserver.net is godaddy's main outbound server - having trouble understanding why it can't resolve.

this is the smtp server name that i put in schmooze's pro app - smtpout.secureserver.net:3535 (along with a valid email/pwd)..

sorry if i am missing something obvious. i would've happily picked up the phone and paid someone to help resolve this 5hrs ago, but was told it'd be tomorrow afternoon before I could get someone to help. and the client needs this running 3hrs ago.

It's probably a simple thing that you net gurus understand intuitively, but guys like me can't decypher your thoughts to understand what we're missing.

Thanks Nerd Uno! I uninstall SendMail and installing it back using this tutorial http://linuxconfig.org/configuring-gmail-as-sendmail-email-relay and it works now .

Can you point me to a HylaFax/AvantFax setup please? I run the scripts in the /root (avantfax-email-dest, avantfax-pw-change) and setup the inbound route and everything but I can't send a fax using the avantfax gui) I think the hylafax is missing ? Even though I see the configuration files in the /etc/hylafax/ .. Thanks for all your help!!
